Do these qualify as clam diggers?

I was looking for some white jeans and ran across these (not white or jeans, but they looked interesting):

I wore my matchstick clams out last year and was looking for another option (less expensive and hopefully won't get blue dye all over my clothes like my J Crew ones did). Anyway, I was wondering what the consensus would be on these.

If these aren't clams, does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives to the matchsticks? Or is it too early yet :)?

Since I will be also looking for some clamdiggers this summer, if I don't find some relatively early at the beginning of season, I plan to get some inexpensive skinnies and shorten them.

I am hoping to try these though:

Thanks guys. Tanya, I did notice that the white ones looked a little more fitted which is what prompted me to post these as well.

I will just keep on the lookout and assume I'm a little too early in this search!

I read this at work and was going to say they looked to baggy as well. I think clams really have to be fitted to look good. Esprit has a bunch on sale and in the outlet store. I recently ordered these, though I haven't received them yet so I can't say if they're a success. I don't know if you're considering a non-denim pair but I personally prefer them because they're less heavy.

I actually tried these on today. The picture of the white ones is much more accurate, except they were shorter on me (and you too, Dani) - right at the end of my knee cap. They weren't bad, except they were really low rise. They had another, longer option that fit better, but these would have to be hemmed:

I am very interested in this subject though. I'm hoping Angie and those of you who wore clam diggers last year will chime in here. I'm not really sure what makes the difference between clam diggers, bermuda shorts, and capri pants. I mean, I know it's length and fit along the leg..but how tight do they need to be? I'm always afraid of tight leg openings, binding and causing a little circle of fat. And for length--is there a specific spot, or is it like a skirt? Everyone has their perfect spot?

My guess for clams is that they should hit right at the bottom of your knee. At least in my case, I am not eager to showcase my knees so that's what I'm aiming for!

I am totally with Nicole, I need a tutorial on this with visuals! Also, what kind of body types can wear these pants? Pears are supposed to refrain from wearing shorts, does the same hold for clamdiggers, capris, bermuda shorts as well?? I am confused and lost. Help!

If you look at pictures it's pretty easy to tell the difference. I think clams should hit just below the knee and they really do have to be pretty fitted. If you're not comfortable wearing skinnies, you probably won't be comfortable in clams either.

Bermudas are straight down, no tapering, and I personally prefer mine to end right above the knee, but if you're taller you might like them longer.

I think clams are a type of capri. Capris are any cropped pant, but most of them are frumpy and unflattering. Clams are the "good" capri.

Last spring our Macys had a ton of calf length "skinnies". I tried about six pair by Levis and Calvin Klein. I found a pair of CKs for about $11 and had them hemmed. I really liked the fit a lot.
Another less expensive option is to try on the skinny Levis at Kohls and have them hemmed.
I have the Matchsticks in denim and white denim. I much prefer the white denim ones. I haven't decided if I'm going to replace the denim ones yet or just wear skirts, bermuda shorts, and my white clams.

I really hope there's a good assortment of clams out there this spring. It would be such a bummer if clams turned out to be the sweater dresses of spring! (Meaning, an elusive item, and no one can quite find the perfect one).

Laura, I am not sure why the link doesn't work. I noticed they've been doing weird things with their site. The ones I tried on are "skinny cropped jeans", and they are too long for clams, as you guys discussed. But overall fit is pretty good, so hemming is an option.

You know I kept my eyes peeled for clamdiggers in stores here this summer to no avail. I saw a few options in Target, but they were all low-rise and didn't fit up at the bum/tum properly. None of the denim stores had anything close as they were all stocking short shorts. I did see some capris in dept stores, but none of them were slim cut.

I'll be interested to see how you guys fare in the stores up there - I hope you have better luck!!!

Thanks for the responses. I will try the Gap skinny capris on and see if I can have them shortened (I did that last year with an inexpensive pair of white capris and it worked out fine). I am also interested in some non-denim clam diggers so I will keep an eye out for those as well.

Tam - I got some high rise ones in Target and took in the hems to make them tighter and hemmed them to make them shorter. They were the ones you commented on in one of my pictures recently
