I have been hearing rave reviews of Danskos for a long time now, from regular wearers and foot specialists alike, so it surprised me that I had totally forgotten to look into them on my quest for summer shoes. I find these appealing because of the adjustable strap in the front:

6pm.com has a lot of cute styles too. I am especially fond of these in turquoise (though sadly they don't have it in my size, but maybe they do elsewhere):

I am told that you can't really feel the height because of the platform style. Does anyone own a pair and agree with this statement?

Maya, I have never tried Danskos because I've never seen them in WW. If you do try them, let me know how they work out. I've heard a lot about them, too, but figured they'd be too narrow.

I've never owned Danskos but I was actually steered away from them at one store because they apparently tend to run wide and my foot is on the narrow side. Just looking at them, I think they look roomy side to side. I'm not sure what you mean by feeling the height. I think the sole is definitely not flexible but I've heard they're still really comfortable.

What I mean is that you don't feel like you're wearing a heel, Patience.

Becky, they run wide and have pretty flexible uppers. I was actually told to try a pair after I had surgery last year (though a closed toe style, obviously). Like I said, the first pair even has an adjustable strap across the front of the foot. I'm sure you could add holes to it if it still felt too narrow.

I own a pair of Arabella sandals in black. They are extremely comfortable and I'd say you can wear them from morning till night - unless you're primarily walking or standing. You don't feel the heel as much as other shoes, but it's still there, that is they are not as comfortable as, for example, Lolita style http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7129692.html that I used to own too. In those you can really walk the entire day without consequences.

Thanks for the info Marianne. I guess I'll have to bypass them since I need them for walking. But it sounds like a different style would be good.

Horses for courses. I know plenty of people who rave about their danskos and plenty that don’t. They are a very popular Seattle shoe (in clog version). They offer good arch support and are fairly wide. You need to find a dansko style that works with your foot, though. They are not created equally. And you need to like clumpy shoes to like this brand.

They do not work for my feet, and I try every style each season. I find them uncomfortable because they run really wide and I don’t need arch support. I have bony feet so my bones rub against everything. BUT! You should try them because they might work for you.

I don't like clunky shoes, but let's face it: I will have to sacrifice style for comfort. As long as it doesn't ruin my outfit, I don't really care anymore. That's why I'm having such a hard time--where am I going to find a shoe that I can wear with dresses?

Unfortunately the Sofft slides didn't work out. The front strap goes around my toes, which I initially thought was a good thing, but it really needed to go around the widest part of my foot, otherwise it just falls off. The footbed is nicely cushioned and the straps are fine, but their placement is off.

However, your reasons for finding Danskos uncomfortable sound good for me.

Certain dansko styles do not look half bad. Especially if you have a boho element to your style. It’s definitely worth investigating, Maya. How did the other strappy sandal work out?

I have 5 different styles of Danskos and love them all. If I was going to do some city walking for a day I would definately wear Danskos.

I didn't order any strappy sandals, unless you count the Soffts as strappy. The other sandals I ordered are a pair of Born slides. 6pm seems to be down but these are the ones I got from there:

If they work I plan to duplicate and even triplicate them. It's so hard to wait for shoes after having Zappos' overnight shipping for so long!

That's great San. Do you recommend any particular styles? Especially ones that look good w/ skirts.

I have to say that I don't have picky feet but I don't think this one will give you much problems even if you do. I wore it for more than 10 hours doing shopping and didn't feel pains at the end of the day. It goes with walk shorts and casual skirts so I wear it a lot.

It seems that it's sold out at Aerosoles website but maybe you can find a similar one if you like it.

My problem is that my foot is pretty wide, so lots of shoes that are comfortable on most people still hurt for me. I feel like the little mermaid.

I have the Dansko "Professional" clogs, and they are fine for clomping around on the weekends when it's too cold for flip-flops. However, my feet are the opposite of fussy...if you have foot issues, definitely do a good walk-around at the store before you plunk down -- they are expensive for shoes! I find they don't have much cushioning, and sometimes the tendon in my foot's arch aches after wearing them too long.

(If I'm really going to be walking a lot, I'll just wear running shoes. *shrugs*)

And beware the "Dansko roll" -- especially when walking on tilted sidewalks. I'm surprised I haven't rolled an ankle yet.

Hi,

I actually ended up buying the Dansko Sonja for days when I'm
on my feet a lot. I have inserts for my plantar fasciitis and didn't
need to use them with these clogs. Have a friend whose and nurse
and she wears them at work. She recommended them to me in the
first place.

Of my Dansko collection there are several styles of soles, some of which are the clog, a high heel, a flat, and my most comfortable style which is the Lolita http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7129692.html. I have these sandals and also a closed toe shoe with the same sole both of which make my feet very happy.
I find them to be very bouncy and your foot rolls along without needing to bend at the toes. I also feel very stable footed in this kind, more than the clog which is probably the one that would be more likely to roll the ankle.
As for whether they would be good with dresses? I think they would, but then I'm still learning about fashion! The Lolita's are much cuter in black rather that the camel shown on the link.

I don't think tilted sidewalks are an issue where I live, and I have flat feet but my ortho. surgeon says I should look for arch supports to keep my foot supported. The Lolitas seem to be getting a lot of praise. I will look into them. Thanks for everyone's input!

Angie, you say that the Dansko clog is popular in Seattle- have you seen it styled successfully and if so, how?? I got some over the winter and love them for walking the 1.5 miles to work and back or on the weekends, and I'd love to find a way to incorporate them into a smart casual look for running errands on weekends or attending very casual concerts where I have to stand for hours. Is it possible to make these not look frumpy?? Or should I just buy some insoles for my flats and deal with it? None of my other shoes are as comfortable when I'm on my feet for a long time.
