Competing necklines?

I really like the asymetrical neckline of the black dress,but find it difficult to style with a layered top. What do you think of this blouse under the dress? Is it too much going on?

Love the dress - I have a number of work dresses with asymmetric necklines, and I find they look best unadorned (e.g., without a necklace, but I think the same applies to tops underneath). Also, the dress has a streamlined, modern feel, which may look better on its own. Could you add a blazer or cardigan to add warmth without competing with the neckline?

It isn't the neckline as much as the button that compete. I would go for a lower contrast top underneath - maybe a crewneck long-sleeved t-shirt in a darker colour. I also agree that the neckline might best be highlighted by wearing a topper over it instead of a shirt underneath it. Then again, I have a bit of a poison eye for wearing dresses as jumpers/pinafores, so I might be biased.

I agree with Penny, perhaps a cardigan or jacket would let that neckline shine; that neckline is fab. I think a plain base layer with a crew neck would look better if you want a layer underneath the dress; the collar and buttons are a bit busy. The dress itself fits you well and looks amazing on you!

I don't think this combination works. I like the dress and the shirt, but separately.
Do you perhaps have a top without buttons? I think something unadorned and more minimalistic could work. You could try square or straight neckline, or a boat neck top.

I'd like to see a non button blouse. To me it looks like to much for the eye.

Maybe a layer sans collar and buttons. I also really like the idea of a topper instead of an under layer.

Great dress. I prefer a neckline like this to stand alone. It does look like it might be a bit revealing though.
I had a dress with a asymmetrical neckline and I didn't wear anything underneath. I did wear a cardigan with it.

Thank you, AJ and Style Fan! I've tried a couple of other options to see if it works. My feeling is that the neckline is borderline too revealing, depending on the occation. For a casual or dressy option I find it ok, but not so much for a professional look.
