Cold shoulder cardigan - YouLookFab Forum

I was curious about this piece and ordered it, but ended up returning it because it was harder to style than I anticipated. I like the idea of a feather-light layer for spring/summer, but in practical terms it didn't work well.

This style really only lends itself well to layering over a sleeveless top. I have plenty of sleeveless tops for summer, so I thought it would be much easier to style as a throw-on-and-go thing. But somehow it didn't work. For one thing, I tried it in the white color, and everything showed through to the point where it distracted me, and I felt like the prints and lines of the tops under the cardigan sort of fought with the lines of the cardigan itself.

I wonder if it might work better for me in black. I also tried the M, even though TrueFit recommends a S for me (I'm typically a 6-8 in tops, which usually puts me right in between sizes). I wonder if I should try the black in a M and a S before I give up on the style. Has anyone else tried this cardigan?

Pity, it is a great cardigan. I was considering it as I still need a white cardigan for summer in the AC-heavy office, but ultimately decided it would be too eye catching for my conservative office. I would certainly try it in black and different size to see how it works.

I understand being bothered by the sheerness of the white. Wondering if you will still find it too fussy in black. It seems like it has potential though.

Tanya, I could see it looking really great on you, but I can also see how it might skew just a bit too "unusual" for a conservative work environment.

I've got a Nordstrom online shopping cart full of bras right now, I might just go ahead and add the black cardigan to it too, just to see if it does work better. Sometimes I just want a summer topper that's not a denim jacket, you know?

Delurked, I wonder about the fussy factor. I find black easier to work with, in general, than white, and maybe the lessened see-through factor of black would work better for keeping the look more streamlined… it is the kind of thing that really needs to be tried on with outfits to evaluate.

I almost feel like you'd need to wear a plain colored tank under this, the same color as the cardigan, so that the cardigan can make a statement. Which means it probably won't be a throw on with anything piece.

Well, the great thing about Nordstrom is they make it really easy to try things out and return if they don't work. Give the black a try and thanks for letting us know what you thought about the white. I wear a lot of color and pattern and am more drawn to light toppers so this was very valuable info for me.

I agree it's an interesting piece, but I wonder about it in the sense that if you want a sweater, isn't that because your shoulders are cool? At the same time it's a really cool look. The show through on white would bother me but it's worth a try in black -- why not?

I think it's beautiful. For me it would defeat the purpose of lightweight in black. I say give it a try at least see if you have better styling options.

The problem became obvious once you posted it. I do agree it is a pretty piece though.

I love the look of that cardigan but I just can't wear white cardigans---even though I love them on others. I love the cold shoulder style too but probably wouldn't wear it myself.

Janet, I feel the same about black being easier to work with than white. I definitely default to black in general.

I think black is worth a shot for you. Thinking about the "cool factor" of so many of your toppers, this feels like it would fit right in.

I can see it working as something to wear out for drinks or to a casual dinner in the summer - and outdoor patio , etc where you may need something for a bit of coverage but still want to look summery. And black would be "cooler" and funkier, if you know what I mean. White cardigans are tough to wear, I agree - I often feel like an old lady in one (you know that grandma uniform of white cardi over a print top etc?). Lol.

Yes, definitely, I think the black would be great. I tend to like dark over light rather than light over dark (as shown here with the white cardigan over a black tee. The show-through factor is also problematic.

I agree with others to try the black...funny about your shopping cart full of bras. I ordered 8, sent them all back, and have 3 reordered in a diff size. They should be waiting for me when I get home tomorrow. Hope there's a couple of keepers. And thank goodness Nordstrom does free shipping both ways.

I think black might be more dramatic and edgy. Like Lisa, I think the white cardi over a print top is at odds with the cold shoulder look. Sort of a grandma-lost-it-with-the-scissors look?
