Christmas decor...show and tell!

'Tis the time of year to share...your holiday decor and inspiration!

DH put up the Christmas lights - small, white, under the eaves, while I managed the greenery. After two years of pine cones and burlap bows, I was feeling maximal! I recycled some lengths of taffeta from years ago. They were extra fabric cut from overlong curtains. The ornaments were mostly recycled, though the large gold balls are new this year.

Will tackle indoors tomorrow.

Lovely decorations, Runcarla. We haven't yet gotten into Christmas mode here as we are just finishing up Thanksgiving festivities... and all the leftovers. We will be getting around to some initial decorating next weekend... and tree trimming after that. But I am certainly excited to see what everyone is doing.

We live in an rv right now. Hopefully we will break ground on an actual small house soon. Until then, my Christmas decorations are small and as unobtrusive as I can make them without being depressed over lack if Christmas twinkle lights.

Our tree features a lot of dachshund themed ornaments because I have no children and she gets all that spoiling LOL

Just put up the tree and tormented the cats! Also our winter village - DS is 13 but still loves miniature worlds so we add one thing yearly.

I logged on just now to share my new ornament (I buy one each year and put a lot of thought into it) and saw your thread. Good idea!

I got a flying pig (with ice skates!) because 2016 has been the most bizarre year of my entire life so far and I needed a good laugh.

I'm not doing much for decorations this year since everything has been crazy, but I bought a 3' tree to put in my bedroom and make me smile every day and that is likely all I'll do.

Going out of town for Christmas so won't put any decorations up. I don't trust our cats to leave the tree alone, and all of our ornaments are collectibles.

I am going shopping tomorrow morning to buy gifts for a boy on an economically disadvantaged family that has been displaced from their home. Each person in our office is buying for one of the 7 children. The child I chose has autism, so I really want to help.

We had a near catastrophe with our tree last year, so after 35 years, we got an artificial tree. A friend told me we're officially old. Next we're getting a security door.

1. Our new tree
2. This tree, a Colorado Blue Spruce, was a volunteer in our front yard. We transplanted it to the backyard when it was 6 inches tall. Now it's taller than me. This is the first year we've decorated it. My husband put the lights on a remote control. I don't even have to go outside!
3. A jade plant
4. Hand knitted snow flakes (by me)
5-6. Two ornaments removed from the tree by our Jack Russell. The smaller ornament used to be a polar bear.

Love seeing everyone's beautiful decorations!

We are decorating in stages. Our entire neighborhood puts out luminaries, so we put those out last weekend when the weather was still in the 50's.

Today we put up the tree. It makes me happy because it is a mix of classic and very quirky ornaments. Cythnthia, I have TWO dachshunds and there are plenty of doggie ornaments on our tree. One of the pups "helped" add the pheasant feathers to the tree while the other pouted because I had given her a bath.

Tomorrow I will put up an small iron ornament tree with Swarovski snowflake ornaments. My husband and I got married at the end of December and we add a new ornament for each year. We are up to 11, so it's starting to look very sparkly. I'll add a picture tomorrow.

Cheweyspagetti, El Cee - feel free to post pics when you get around to decorating. Canadian Thansgiving is in October, so by the end of November I'm usually making plans. I hold off until December 1st to decorate however, and the tree (if we do one) goes up the weekend before Christmas, and stays up until 'little Christmas' in January.

CWS - small is beautiful! Your tiny tree is lovely.

Alaskagirl, JAileen, Meredith - where would we be without our pets to tease, and them to tease us right back. Fat Sam likes to sit under the tree. I think heat from the lights gets trapped between the flor and the branches. Meredith, how are the luminaries made? I made ice luminaries when I lived up north. It's not cold enough where I live now.

Meredith, those luminaries are amazing. Are you in NM? I love putting them out for special occasions but mine are candles in paper bags. Where did you get yours?

How fun! We have decorated some but I haven't had time to take pics. We have icicle lights and green garland in front and white lights along the back deck to enjoy from indoors and outdoors. I don't do a big tree but I have a couple of very small artistic trees and usually do a different one or two each year.

Very minimal Christmas decorations this year, at least compared to most years. Both daughters are temporarily living at home, and one has brought a kitten, so I'm not putting up a full size tree. We have a tabletop tree and we shall see how that goes. I mostly decorate my little hutch, swap the Blue Willow dishes for red, add electric candles everywhere, and change my textiles to reds from blues. I like it. It feels like Christmas, but with breathing space in our small cottage. I love seeing everyone's decorations!
ETA that I love your Christmas village, Alaskagirl! I'm not putting mine out this year because the kitten would be in the middle of it. My Target dollar spot houses are my minimal substitute this year.

TG, you need to get the Ssscat cans - they are motion detectors that attach to a can of compressed air and can be placed anywhere. We have one by the tree and one in the village and it keeps all animals safely away without us having to do anything. They are all terrified of it and one or two times is enough - we don't even have to have the detector on. It's totally harmless, just a jet of air with a startling hiss.

Elpgal/Carla: I'm in Kansas and there is a local company that makes the luminaries. All the hardware stores in the neighborhood sell them, but it looks like you can order online. They are a sturdy plastic material That can be used with string lights or votives.

We just finished the tree last night. It is a 12-footer and was a 5-day project!! Bonus kitchen with grumpy breakfast-cooking Santa!

Here's the daytime view - if I can get some good outdoors after dark shots, I'll add them tomorrow. First is the festive fox, also known to keep the cats off that shelf; next up are the three wise G-men, ready for some festive outdoor action?; the tree which USED to be pre-lit, but now has so few working strings that I have to totally wrap it in lights like it was purchased bare; a semi-festive mantel (yeah, the stacked stone face is only half done); the miniature trudging santa vignette at the front door ( the vignette on the lower shelf contains three different antique iron dog figures, all attracted by the startled little iron cat that just rounded the corner); the front door with the nutcrackers standing guard; and a bonus shot of the missing Rembrandt 'The Storm on the Sea of Galilee', with our family motto added! : )

My holiday decorating this year is pretty minimal since we will be away for the holidays, but I had to at least put up a little tree. It's the artificial tree my mom got with my help about a dozen years ago, when big trees became too much for her to handle. This year the lights on it decided they were not going to work anymore, but I don't have the heart to get rid of it, so I strung white lights and lantern lights on it and used some of my favorite tree decorations.

#4 is the lights entering our neighborhood.
#5-8 are from the monument lighting festival in Baltimore
#9-10 are a cute little alley in Annapolis

This year might be my lightest Christmas touch. We are actually going somewhere soon after Christmas, so I elected to go small. When I put out the stockings last night, it drew (positive) comments and I felt a bit bad about not doing a tree. However, paged through 'Unplugging the Christmas Machine' and any bad feelings soon passed!

We now have snow, and I do love driving up to the house with it's white lights and blinged out greenery at night after work!
