Casualizing wool--take 1 - YouLookFab Forum

On the advice of you wonderful ladies I am attempting to make my wool trousers less " work" and more integrated into my dressy casual wardrobe. This first attempt was prob easier than it will be with my grey or black wool trousers because these orange wool pants are inherently less traditional or "serious" to me. Even in wool herringbone! This is also my very first attempt ever wearing chambray, believe it or not. I wore this outfit running a few errands in town and dropping into an outdoor neighborhood holiday party.

Thoughts? I adore these pants and used to wear them dressier with grey tops or blazers to work and church. Need to find other ways to enjoy them out of those settings.

Wow - I think this looks great! Can't see the shoes, but the rest of the outfit looks perfect for a casual, yet pulled-together day. Those pants fit you superbly .

Thanks ladies! Inge it took me a long time to find a denim type shirt that I liked. This chambray one is just the right color and weight, I'm hooked! The pants are probably one of my favorite things in my closet:-)

I agree that the colour makes them more casual than a neutral would read. They look great on you & I think you could wear them in any setting, no need to save them for church! What about with a chunky or slouchy pullover?

Oh E I love that idea of a chunky or slouchy pullover! I tend to go more streamlined but I would like to try that silhouette, especially gearing towards smart casual. Just need to get the proportions right...

Successful for sure! I agree that the color probably makes it a bit easier. Can't really see the shoes, but footwear can also affect how casual an outfit reads. I like E's suggestion of a chunky sweater, and would also suggest trying a graphic tee with a denim jacket, a bomber or moto jacket, or even a little hoodie with a blazer.

No wonder you adore these pants, they fit you like a glove. What a brilliant idea to have paired them with a chambray shirt. And the necklace is a very nice touch too.

love. i also love E suggestion of a chunky sweater. another way to quickly make them more casual, would be to simply untuck the shirt you have on, maybe add a tee underneath. i'd also try adding a white sneaker.

Thanks for your input ladies! I found out last ngiht I own one(1) chunky sweater that I have yet to remove tags from, a cropped pink one from Target. I love it but when I play with it in my closet it only seems to work over dresses in my eye. So will need to hunt around.
The pants are a result of an investment I made two years ago to have all my trousers altered professionally! Thank you Stacey and Clinton for hammering that into my brain.After years of belting to death and having gaps in my pants from a significant waist-hip ratio, I found a great tailor who did not cost an arm and a leg and got all my trousers altered

Those trousers are beautiful. Try the short Target sweater over a longer piece, maybe the chambray shirt worn untucked or a tank about the same color as pants or sweater.

Thanks ladies! I finally got around to trying flannel in the quest to move my dress wool trousers into smart casual-- I put it in a separate post-- and I loved it.
Joy thanks for those suggestions! I need to play a bit with that cropped sweater because I do love the color and texture. It may be *just * too long to layer effectively but I will try!
