Cashmere wrap

My heart wants a fab vintage fur wrap/stole to go over my dress (more on that soon I promise), but the practical side of me says to get something I can wear more often.

So I began thinking a cashmere wrap would be nice. I travel by plan some and do usually find airplanes quite chilly.

And of course now that my tastes have elevated only cashmere will do

I swear I read somehwere recently (was it YLF? can't remember) about travel wraps and cashmere wraps but can't find the thread (if it was even here that I read it).

Anyway - can anyone recommend a nice cashmere wrap suitable for covering a long gown worn as a special wedding guest (part of ceremony) AND for use thereafter?

Dress is ink blue, and I was thinking a black/charcoal combo may be nice?

Honestly I think silk/cashmere (basically, a "real" pashmina as opposed to the acrylic ones) looks dressier and wears better (less likely to pill). IMO 100% cashmere looks more casual because it's so soft and doesn't have the sheen of silk. For the same reasons I'd choose woven over knit. 100% cashmere would be warmer though... I use mine (it's old, from BR) as a blanket scarf with my wool coat in sub-zero weather. But for dressier occasions, I prefer a silk blend. (For planes too but mostly that's because the cashmere one is HUGE and takes up a lot of room).

Diana, do you have any brands to recommend? I am open to the blend for the reason you mentioned. Thanks for chiming in.

Sorry, mine are ancient! I don't even remember the brands for the most part. The only suggestion I can offer is that if the price is too good to be true, it's probably fake. (There are a whole ton of fake pashminas with labels that say "silk/cashmere" on them on sale for like $10. Yeah, not so much.) It's also tricky because some are very thin, which might be preferable sometimes but not if you want more warmth, plus they will not be as durable.

Thanks Diana. I am actually remembering that I have some in my drawer that never get use. Don't know if I am averse to the whole wrap thing (a bit fussy for me) or that they are probably indeed of the $10 variety (haha).

I am going to dig through and see what I have that may be suitable with the dress for the event. I secretly hope nothing bc I love to shop and the thrill of the hunt is hard to resist, but we'll see what I have. I will probably post a thread about it soon.

Anyway, thanks for your replies!! Good info for thought.

Okay, so I have to pop in and fess up. I own the Travel Wrap Company cashmere wrap in charcoal. It is heaven! It is knitted, though, not woven, if that is important to you. So it is a gorgeous, wonderful, warm, luxurious, very fine gauge (but not thin or sheer), drapey wrap. It feels like a heavenly, sweatery hug. It isn't as formal as some woven wraps are. I bought mine because I was fed up with being cold in my office. Since I was wearing a woven inexpensive wool faux-pashmina every day, I decided it was probably worthwhile to buy the Travel Wrap for myself. I haven't regretted it for a second. If you want, I can ask a friend to take a pic in sunlight so you can see how it looks.
