Carry every bag like a clutch, are you in?

Not new but quite prevalent on the AW13 catwalk, are you already on board or are you ready to embrace carrying every bag like a clutch?

I have tried this in my bedroom and love the look, it will venture out on my next child free day, what say you? Is it silly trend or a style refresher which does not cost a penny?

Well it doesn't cost anything to try it! I haven't been able to find a large, soft clutch that I like so I'll give this a go with my regular bags. Great examples from the runway, thanks!

I think it can work with a more structured bag that is proportionate to one's arms and probably works better for those with longer arms (and longer bodies)! But I'm up to try it.

I have no issue with carrying a bag that way, provided it doesn't have handles. When it does have handles, it strikes me as a little unusual, as well as inconvenient. Large clutches are great, so size has nothing to do with it, but I guess my first thought with those pictures is... why? Then again, like someone mentioned, it costs nothing to try, and if someone likes it, then it is none of my business how someone chooses to carry their bag. I will stick to only carrying handle-free bags as clutches, though.

It's interesting to note that the way someone carries their bag can become part of their style. Even the girls and boys in high school carry their binders or backpacks a certain way and it's part of their "swag".

Oh, my. I've been educating myself about bags recently, in preparation for creating a true bag capsule and upgrading quality. Just yesterday I decided that I was going only for convertible bags --- bags that can cross the body, at least as an option, because they include at least an optional strap. I need to be FREE! I use to think this was due to having young children, but I find that I still want to be hands free, and fee the weight of my bag distributed across my body.

This looks great, but I'll enjoy it on others!

First, I must say that I wish my arms were a few inches longer. I think this look is best suited to my longer-armed sisters

However, because you have used such impressively sharp powers of discernment to notice this free, fringe trend, I am going to go for it. A dropped bag is a small price to pay for looking du moment!

I have tried this and I find it works with some bags but not others. To my eye, #1 works, #2 looks silly and #3 is borderline.

im a klutz barelly master being with my satchel and not forget it in every place i go ...i still can't with my clutch ...even if it is big ...i am a klutz so i would def skip the trend

2 and 3 make me think that there's so much in that bag that it's too heavy to carry on the arm....or it contains a pet. I'll give it a try but there's no getting around that those bags aren't clutches and aren't going to sit nicely on your lap when seated.

since i don't have a thing for purses, i would give this a pass. i didn't get an oversized clutch, though i liked the look on others, for the same reason.

to me, it looks like she packed too much in a bag an is having a hard time carrying it.

My hands ache just thinking about it. I'm strong... lift weights and everything... but my hands just can't do clutches of any sort. I don't know why.

Spoiler alert: I won't. I like crossbody bags for a reason. Doesn't seem all that practical to me. I agree that pic #1 looks ok but 2 and 3 look silly and impractical.

Looks cool, but I am so not a bag lady that it's all I can do to even put my crossbody over my shoulder. 90% of the time it's in a reusable grocery shopping bag along with my lunch and apron for work, etc.
I've come to the realization a bag 'wardrobe' will never be part of my world. I'll watch you all play with this

Not for me. I think the look is fun, but I can't stand the idea of having to hug my bag to my body like that... as if I'm carrying a sack of groceries. What if I'm *also* carrying a real sack of groceries? In my mind, it defeats the purpose of a bag. If I was going to heap all my things together against my hip, I'd wad everything up in my jacket pocket and hold onto that all day.

I'm with Joy on this one.
#1 is cool and insouciant, but #2 looks to me like the model is trying to evade the store detective with a haul of lead crystal, and #3 looks like a doggy carrier. Confusing.

Really interesting responses, it looks like we have more Nays than Yays.

I agree one looks the best, probably because it is clutch like in shape and size but I also like both 2 and 3.

I can understand the idea this is not comfortable or practical but I admit I have sometimes carried my bag like this (strap looped over the lower arm and clutched from beneath) for extra security through a crowd or if my strap keeps falling off my shoulder. I will try to post a pic when the look does venture out.

Another Nay here! I think carrying the bag looks good with a clutch or a very slim purse, but to be honest, it looks a bit strange with anything bulkier. It looks like your strap has broken, or you are carrying a package. Or you want to join in the clutch club, but couldn't find any in your wardrobe so you are using your regular bag instead.

With a slimmer bag or a real clutch, however, the look is full of style and yes, I would sport it (and do).

I was shopping for (bulkier) purses over the weekend. After seeing some prices, esp. of the ones looking like those shown in above pictures, I can understand why some models would cradle it like a treasure in their arms rather than carelessly let it dangle for any pick-pocket to snip it off...!

Nay. My wrists would be so mad at me, and I would probably leave the bag somewhere by accident. I need to have all my stuff in one bag that is physically attached to my body, LOL.

I've noticed this on the runways, and wondered about it. I have really been enjoying my clutches, and could *maybe* see carrying one of my handled bags like a clutch if it works that way without feeling bulky and unnatural. Some of these just don't look comfortable, especially when you consider that the models are carrying bags stuffed with lightweight tissue paper, and we'd be putting actual objects with weight in the bags!

For the most part, though, I can't help but think if a bag has a handle, why not use it?

I saw that, Jules! The technique seems to works better with flat bags - and many of mine are blocky satchels. I do have the gorilla arm length to cover the ground though.

I'm going to stay pure for a while and wear REAL clutches. Have fun with the look though

This is kind of funny. Last summer when clutches were becoming so popular I just couldn't bring myself to buy one because I knew I'd set it down somewhere and walk away.

But, I saw this clutch I loved that looked like a fancy, leather lunch sack. And I had a soft leather tote in my wardrobe, so I folded the top of my tote over and carried it like a clutch sometimes.

I treated it kind of like a convertible bag. If I bought too many items to fold it nicely, or needed to free up my hands I could unfold the bag and use the handles over my shoulder.

This summer I have a leather backpack I'm besotted with, so haven't done my rolled up tote bag trick. Who knew I was cutting edge?

I think I'll pass on this as I like to have my hands free. Sometimes even short handled bags annoy me because I end up shoving them up my arm and they dig into my skin. I like my shoulder bags best. A true clutch is fine because it's small and I can tuck it under my armpit when needed.

I've seen this look and I do like it, however, I prefer it with smaller bags. I will definitely experiment for social activities, for everyday it's just not practical for me.
