caring for leather???

I have been reading many mixed reviews about caring for leather. I am trying to find a way of keeping the leather from not drying or cracking. I do not want anything I put on it to darken the leather. Is there anything out there that will not darken but will preserve??

My husband has a pair of cream shoes and the sales assistant at the shop sent us to the local hardware store to buy the neutral cream they use on horses saddles. I have to say it has worked a treat. I will be interested to hear other opinions on this.

It hasn't altered the colour and being from a leather supplier i was willing to take the chance, it is fantastically waterproof. This probably not much good to you as it's a uk company but i guess what i'm thinking is try leather suppliers for a protector x

It depends on the type of leather (lamb, cow, goat?) and how it's treated. Some leathers are naked, some glazed, patent, distressed, etc.
