Can I wear these in Europe for rainy cold weather ?

I don't know if this counts, but I would wear the Docs with bootcut jeans. I know Angie has the tall Doc boots (shown in the clamdiggers with boots blog post http://youlookfab.com/2008/09/.....igh-boots/) but I think you have to wear them in the right context. Does that make any sense?

I think you would be fine with the second pair of boots and skinnies as well.

I have an old pair of Doc Martens that I will never give away, even if I don't wear them much right now. They always come back around in style!

My only hesitation about you taking them to Europe is that they're so heavy! Are you traveling to a lot of different places (i.e., will you be schlepping your bag around a lot)? Do you have to pay for your luggage if it's over a certain weight? Those would be the deal-breakers for me...

yes Kristen, one of our legs is a hop on Ryan Air from Dublin to Edinburgh. Ryan Air is very strict about the weight of the luggage.

Maybe I wear my tall Aerosole boots and forget about taking the Doc Martens all together.

This packing has become a real challenge because of Ryan Air's strict policies.

I also think that with bootcuts, they would be fine if you are funky or conversely feminine elsewhere, however unless you wear them on and off plane they will be really heavy. It is so important to have good walking shoes that also work in rain, always a challenge.
