Can I pull off seventies disco fashion?

In 2 days time I am going to a Quiz night with the dress up theme " Seventies disco fashion". I don't want to shop for the occasion, and hoped this dress (which my Mum wore in the 70's) might do the trick.
1) do you think it will do
2) any advice for hair (I was attempting to flick it outwards in this picture, not very successfully) or accessories. It is pretty cold here so I'll have to cover up too!

Hmmm. There is lots of ways to go with your hair. Perhaps flippy will work best.

To disco-ize it further, how about some sparkly gold accessories? And do you have platform shoes? I know you don't usually wear heels, but maybe you could borrow some wedges?

Not sure what to suggest for the hair. Flippy could work. Or curled under in a sort of pageboy style?

That dress is pretty, and pretty great for the event! I second the idea of a scarf tied like a headband at the back of your head. Or you could make a triangluar scarf to go with your colors in the dress.

Suz, I was going to wear high heeled sandals, but it is really too cold to countenace sandals. In the photo I am wearing high heeled black boots and leggings! I figure at a quiz night it is mostly about the top half!

I like the suggestions of a scarf like a headband, and think that it might be the easiest way to go.

Glad you like the dress. I always loved it as a child when Mum wore it, and wore it to the odd seventies party when I was much younger. I was relieved it still fits!! The label says size 10, bust 32" hips 34" and my dimensions are more like 33" and 38".

I'd go with a flippy hairdo and wear either wedge or platform sandals. I don't think you need bold jewelry. Compared to the '60s when my older sisters were in high school, clothing colors were generally subdued and makeup back then was natural looking; didn't get into bold primary colors, etc. until the '80s. The switch to bold colors is what sparked the Color Me Beautiful thing in the '80s. I don't remember anybody ever wearing turbans in the '70s. I graduated from high school in 1979. Hope this helps.

Love the bold prints! You could wear a sparkly headband to add some glamour.

Scarf headband or maybe a floral one by way of 'jewellery', or maybe even a single large flower as a clip?

Boots should be fine, and I'd add either a leather jacket or a poncho for warmth.

It's not exactly "disco" (no maxi dresses at the disco -- you couldn't dance in 'em), but it is certainly 70s! Have fun at the party!

Scarf headband, yes. Turban, absolutely not. Flower in hair, maybe.

Beautiful dress! I remember the silk flower in the hair being popular in the 70's plus many women had hair permed into curls. You might try big hair with a flower in it.

I wrote a reply to a few hours ago but it has disappeared.

Anyway, just thought I'd report back.

Firstly, San, a quiz night (might be called a trivia night?) is a fun, usually fundraising night where tables of people try to answer rounds of questions. They are quite common in Australia. They don't usually have dress up themes though.

I liked the flower in the hair suggestion, but ran out of time in the end to do it, and none of my scarves worked so I just went with dress and a pleather jacket. A group of us had our photo taken for the local paper so I wonder if it will be published (it is pretty easy to get into the local paper!) Attendees adherence to the dress up theme varied a good deal so my maxi dress (which I knew, as MaryK said, wasn't really a "disco" look) was fine.

Actually, I totally love that dress, and it looks great on you. With the hair I am picturing kind of a bouffant-y french twist. Pulled up but volume on top and lots of hairspray? Am I getting my eras mixed?

Just chiming in to say I did make it into the local paper (me and about 50 other!)

Scarlet I think that is more of an early 60's look than 70's
