It's been wickedly cold. Even worse, I've had to take down my Christmas decorations, lest I bear the scorn of my neighbors. Surely DH should get extra credit for taking down the outside ornaments in below zero temps with blowing snow!

I'm completely lacking in inspiration for my Deep Winter capsule, so I'm mostly continuing to wear my favorite casual outfits from my holiday capsule. So what? Red can work for Valentine's, too! I am, however, making a 2015 plan, and I find myself drawn to the transitional outfits of Spring. Since I run warm, and work indoors, I can wear some of these when the weather outside is still foul -- just not this foul.

One of my fashion epiphanies (now that Epiphany is over and gone):
The romantic part of my style persona is alive and well. Romance to me means luxurious fabrics, rich colors, and feminine cuts that are classic or slightly retro but never fussy or girlish.

While looking for one or two mid-season refresher pieces, I ran across this fluid blouse at the Loft Outlet, which brings me to a second epiphany:
As long as I pay attention to quality of fabric and construction, outlets are my friend. They fit my budget, and are often cut just a tad more generously than the main store lines. When you're a 14, this means everything fits you, without ordering the "special" sizes (I'm talking to you, J. Crew).

I'm not usually a polka-dot girl, as they can be a bit prim, but this print, on an ivory background, seemed more relaxed than most. I was attracted to the fluid fit, the neckline (yay for a modest V) and the structure in the shoulder line holding it all together. I wish it had a contoured hem, and I'm sure the tie is not everyone's cuppa.

I threw it on to show you just as I was making dinner -- I' won't really wear it over a black cami! I was already wearing the skinnies, but I do rather like it with the semi tuck and boots. I've paired it with the blue ponte jacket (I hope the longer, looser blouse updates the jacket, while still looking classic), and I can see this item worn tucked or untucked with my many tube midis. I plan to wear it with distinctly modern, strong elements -- booties, rather than pumps, for example.

How do you stay inspired in Deep Winter? Anyone have any New Year Epiphanies to add?
