Burgundy corduroy skirt?

I'm thinking about giving this corduroy skirt a try - I still need a solid colored skirt for everyday wear. But, it's Ebay and there are no returns possible, although the measurements given fit (waistband and length).

What do you think of the style? Do you think it would work on me/in my wardrobe?

I think burgundy will fit nicely in with your jewel tones tops and knits. I hope the size works for you.

I think it would work very well for you, Astrid. It would define your waist very nicely, and the colour is beautiful. The only thing that bothers me is the hem, which looks as it has been turned up rather clumsily, but that could easily be overcome. If the cost is not too high to warrant the risk, I would give it a go.

Thanks Summer! I didn't even notice the hem, but you're right... Although I think that it probably won't be as visible IRL, depending on light. The brand is usually one with good quality, so I can't imagine they've done shoddy work. It's not super cheap, but I'd say it's reasonable.

The colour is beautiful and I agree that it would work well with your other tops. I like how the waistband defines the waist. It is always difficult to tell what something looks like IRL.

Thanks Style Fan. Yes of course, that's true. One reason why I usually don't shop online when I don't have the option to return it. I guess I have to decide if it's worth the risk.

I think I would pass on this one given that you can't return it. A skirt with partly stitched down pleats has to fit perfectly or it will poof out right at the widest part of the hips.

I agree with missvee. In my experience it works for me when the stitching goes farther down to give a little more structure through the hips. Good luck!

It's a cute skirt, but I'd be leery of the "no return" policy. I've found that corduroy can be a trickier fabric than woven wool because flaws are much more visible, and, as others have said, the pleats need to release at exactly the right place to be flattering. If everything works, it would be a great piece, but, if it's not perfect, will you want it in your carefully chosen, minimal wardrobe?

Astrid, I may be late to the dance but if it were me, I would run away from that skirt...For several reasons...first, no return..I will not order anything with a no return policy because you just can't be sure until you have touched it, tried it and thought about it before you are sure...second, I am always hesitant about corduroy...I often find the wale doesn't work or the color is off..for some reason, corduroy seems to have more problems than other materials...I would wait on this one...

Gaylene, you're right. And no, I wouldn't want it in my wardrobe if it's not just right. If I'm honest I've probably become too picky.

Thanks Crutcher. I actually like corduroy as a fabric, but I guess it might be better to pass on this one.

Chiming in late but I think you made a good decision. I had a skirt in a similar style and it made me look very big in the hips. I loved it but I just felt frumpy because of that.
