BR Sale and Cardigans - YouLookFab Forum

I went to the 30% off sale at BR last Monday. Here are the two items that I bought.

Green cowl neck sweater -- I'm not sure about the runching at the neckline

Burgundy sweater dress -- what could I wear under or over this for the winter?

I've also been trying to find scoop neck or v-neck cardigans in colors that I want to wear but it's been more difficult than I expected. Here are a few so far:

Martin & Osa tie cardigan in cream:

The Martin & Osa cardigan is a bit more ribbed than I was expecting so it would probably be for casual rather than dressy or even smart casual, but I do need casual clothes as well.

I'm tired today so I hope the comments don't sound too grumpy -- but I wanted to get this posted and check it off my list.

Good finds, aj! I actually have the BR sweater in cream and really like it, but I tend to like ruching. I think it looks nice on you.

I love the BR dress. I have not had the courage yet to try a sweater dress, so I don't have a good idea of how to wear one, but maybe some great textured tights? I might have to find this dress myself especially if folks give you great suggestions for how to wear it.

I also really like the M & O sweaters--very flattering. I'm not as crazy about the Eddie Bauer sweater--just not my cup of tea. It looks kind of ordinary compared to your other choices, which were fabulous!

The burgundy dress is killer on you. Makes me want to try it on myself! Would definitely wear with with opaque tights and the boots are fab with it. Consider a chunky necklace of some type -- you can carry it off.

I also like the green sweater and both cardis, especially the red. It's a fantastic color on you.

Eddie Bauer...the style is fine, but the color looks a little drab (as opposed to the red, which lights you up).

I like the red MnO cardigan, again great fit. Also, the EB sweater is nice, casual but looks good on you.

AJ, I like all your purchases, with maybe the exception of the last one. I think between the color or that there is no waist emphasis, something is just off in comparison to the red and cream one. The dress looks great on you! You can easily throw on a jacket or cardigan with the dress. The cream one you just bought would look lovely and then tights.

I'm glad that most of the items get the thumbs up. It's amazing how your mood effects how you see your clothes. When I got around to taking the photos and posting, I was tired and grumpy and didn't like anything!

But I do like sweater dress and this is a big step for me -- I always felt like they were too fitted and showed everything! The EB sweater is really soft and comfortable but I'm sure the color will be as versatile. The M&O cardigans are also very soft and comfy!

aj, I really like everything except the first BR top(green cowl neck). I like the neckline. I think it's the sleeve length that bothers me. They seem to hit at a place that makes your shoulders look too wide, if that makes sense. You have a beautiful figure. That top will look wonderful under a jacket or your cardigans, however.

hi, aj! i must say, you're really pulling together some great pieces! i love seeing your style evolve like this!

1. i LOVE the top! i think the neckline is super interesting and would certainly look great under a blazer/cardi or by itself. the ruching really isn't noticeable at all - didn't actually notice it til you pointed it out! so, unless it makes you feel self-conscious, this item is a major keeper!

2. love the dress on you, as well! i think dani has this dress as well, and I'm pretty sure others made some fab suggestions for hers - i just can't remember which post it was. anyway, i think you could play it up with a belt, tights, pumps, tan/camel-colored boots, a turtleneck (i'd have to see this before totally endorsing it), or a cami - perhaps in teal, white, grey, etc. i'm not sure this dress could really accommodate a blazer or cardigan, so it's probably just a fall dress - unless you dont mind wearing shorter sleeves inside during the winter.

3 & 4. love the fit of the sweater! looks great with the shirts you've paired them with. you could definitely pull off a longer necklace (think pearls, chunky beads, or gold chains) with this neckline. don't rule out brooches either!

5. i agree with the others that this isn't the best fit for you - it just looks a little shapeless. the only thing i could thing of to liven up the sweater is to try a high-waisted belt right under the bust. not sure if it would look great, but you could at least try it. otherwise, i'd say return it and find something even more fabulous.

PS Can you remind me of your age?

I'm 43 -- but I'm currently in graduate school (and will be for three more years), so I'm looking forward a wardrobe that good for wearing to campus every day but is appropriate for my age.

ok, thanks for appeasing me, aj! I know it's not nice to ask a lady her age, but i was just trying to remember.

the reason i was asking is b/c in one of the photos you posted in another thread (i think it was one where you were in a dressing room?), i thought you were in perhaps your early 30s! anyways, you look super stylish at 43 and totally age appropriate!

Shell -- I don't mind telling my age -- and thanks for the complement! It's good genes -- my mom and her sister are in their sixties and everyone thinks they are only 50.

I am absolutely LOVING the first two pieces...the BR top and dress. These are 10+. I think these might be my all time favorite AJ looks!!

I am less excited about the cardigans though. The M+O are better than the EB, but you can do much better.

OMG I am still very excited abt those first two pieces....

I love the first two BR pieces, and M&O cardis are great too. The EB sweater I do not care to much for some reason, but I'm prejudiced towards that brand.
