Booties & Dresses/Skirts - YouLookFab Forum

I love the look of booties with skirts or dresses but haven't partaken in this look yet. I so rarely wear skirts or dresses. Well, I have a new dress and skirt that better align with my causal life than my proper dresses. How does this work. I pulled out my black booties that I bought to wear with jeans do they work with a dress? Are they too short and just accent my bony ankles? I am in the market for a new pair of semi dressy tall boots but should I instead look for a slightly more dressy (needs to be near flat) bootie instead? I love boots and need little excuse to buy more but my climate is fairly warm and I only get a few months wear out of them. My boot purchases need to have some staying power.

Oh, I love the booties with the dress. I see no ankle problem either I think ankle booties are very versatile as they can go with jeans pants and dresses. Knee high boots have to have a wider shaft for wearing with skinnies and then that may be too wide for dresses and hose or bare legs. Also booties can go with all widths of jeans leg pretty much. Perhaps for your climate they may be more fitting? Love the sweater over shirt look in#3 too btw!

I like the booties with the dress! I favor them slightly with the black tights. I live in a fairly temperate climate (Seattle) and reach for my booties a lot more than my tall boots. I like having both options, though.

I like the booties with your dress better than the tall boots, and see no ankle issues. Tights or no tights - both ways are good.

I would like the tall boots and dress with tights and a black jacket.
I find black booties hard to wear without dark tights, unless they bookend the hair. With bare legs I prefer something anywhere on the spectrum between chestnut and taupe.

To Traci's point, I don't think it's the easiest to pull off looks with black booties and bare legs if you have light skin, but you have such nice looking legs that I think it works really well on you. That's a great casual dress, and I lament that that style doesn't work for me, because I also struggle with dresses in my casual lifestyle!

Your ankles are perfect, and this looks great! Go forth and wear with confidence.

Agree that the booties look great on you and I don't see bony ankles at all! I think they actually look even better than the taller boots with the dress -- more elegant somehow.

You look great and I love both outfits. Great casual looks! Another bootie + dress beginner here, but I think they look great on you, with or w/o tights. I love the tall boots with that dress also. Can I ask where the dress is from? I love it. As a work-from-home, mom-on-the-go, finding comfy casual dresses that fit I find so difficult, but the style/fit of that one is perfect!

I am a big fan of this look too, and think you look fantastic! You have nice legs, and this works well. I wear boots with dresses a lot, because I like how it looks, but am admittedly struggling with leg wear/hosery for the first time ever. All of a sudden a black leg and black boots looks so heavy (it's all I ever wore last year ) and I cannot get away with a bare leg unless it's high summer. Nude hose seem weird with a casual dress, so I haven't figured this one out yet Anyways - yes, I vote for another dressier pair of flat booties - I'm looking for the same thing !

I think the black booties are perfect - I also prefer them to the tall ones.

slight segue... Lisap, I got to that place last year. I solved the "heavy bottom" feeling by finding patterned hose... I got several black pairs, with various patterns, and also found some great animal print ones, in shades of white/grey/black. I loved them with a high boot, because not too much showed, yet it broke up the black.

Wow! Lots of love for the booties. Thank you for the encouragement. I got a very quick no from DH on the look. I like the look better with tights but mine don't seem opaque enough, easily solved though. Maybe I should try a lighter bootie since I am fair skinned, medium blonde?

Shemarie - Sounds like we have similar needs:) The dress is from Loft. It runs very large and short. Mine is a small tall. I would have ordered a extra small tall if it was available. I am 5'10" but the tall is still pretty short. I am a pretty true medium/size 8 but Loft sizes are a bit crazy. I fit a 4 in a skirt, a pair of 6 cords where too big. I'm flattered and all but it's a bit ridiculous.

I actually prefer the dress with the booties, and love it without hose! Hose is good too, but I'm loving the look without. Wear it out with confidence - you look fab!!!

Marin, I love both of the dress looks here, and I love them with bare legs. I would say, wear them as they are until it gets too cold; then put on tights. (I am wearing a tube skirt with booties today and bare legs. I think it's a more modern way to go. But you have much better legs than I do. I would absolutely wear either of your dress outfits EVERY DAY if I could.)

What is the boot on the left? It looks like a midcalf boot? I love the way it looks. To me, that is really modern and very cool looking, a little edgier, a little moto. I would love to be able to wear that, if I could find the right boots. Would look great with tights too. It doesn't look knee-high but not sure if that is the angle of the photo?

Thank you, Marin! Very similar needs, and the same height too. And ahhhh, the Loft sizing drives. Me. Crazy. I haven't shopped there in a very long time for that reason. I was just this week looking at their tall sweater dresses, and I appreciate that they carry many things in talls, but they're all online only and who in the world ever knows which size to order? Like you, I'm a 6/8 consistently, but there? I've had XSs and size 2s which is laughable! I have never been a 2 in my life! But thanks for the info...the dress is great and you've tempted me take the plunge and try them again!

Marin- I love this look! My favorite is the booties with the tights- I think the sheer tights, black leather boots and heavy dress fabric make a great contrast in textures and colors.
I also LOVE those booties- can I ask what brand/style they are? I'm shopping for a pair, and those hit all the points I am looking for.

Viva- the mid calf boots are almost ten years old by Biviel. They where my first true shoe love, really well made and have a custom like fit.
