Finding and understanding your body type

boot search

I am very frustrated. I have been all over the place searching for a pair of riding boots (high) with a narrow shaft. Every boot I tried on was too big in the calf. My calves are approximatey 13 inches around. Most boots are at least 14 and average around 15. I would really like to find a nice pair of high leather (low heel) boots with a snug fit to wear with skirts. Any ideas? I would like to spend under $200. Also, I prefer a smooth fit versus a slouch. Thanks for your help!!!!

I saw these in the Eddie Bauer catalogue. (Tall refined leather equestrian boot if you have to scroll down)

They have a 14" wide shaft but it will be hard to find anything narrower that isn't very expensive. I noticed that they have an adjustable strap on the shaft that may enable you to tighten them a bit. they are $189 but my catalogue says you can save 20% on your purchase through Nov. 9th. By phone call 800-426-8020 and mention code 825. eddiebauer.com enter HOLRESTW9 in promotion code box during checkout. You might call to ask if the boot shaft can be tightened with the strap. I've had Eddie Bauer boots for years that are still going strong.

I also have 13" calves and had a hard time finding boots that fit. I got a pair of Sudini Provo boots:

They fit fairly well. I could go tighter--I can stick two fingers in the shaft of the boot-- but if I want to wear them with pants tucked in, the extra space is nice.

Thanks for your ideas. I will check both boots out!

Both boots were great. The Sudini boot actually had a 13.5 inch shaft. However, the heel was too high. I am looking for a lower heel - as in a riding boot. Thanks.

If you don't mind a suede boot, you may want to check out the Kelly & Katie boot at DSW--it has a 13" opening. I have a 12-1/2" calf, and it's a little slouchy on my leg but not baggy. It's also a low heel--1-1/2". More casual than the Eddie Bauer or Sudini, but it might work. It's not the highest quality boot, but most of the narrow-calf boots I've seen are in the $300-$500 range--ouch!

I believe that both Nordstroms and Zappos will allow you to do a "narrow calf" search though in my experience most narrow calf boots are higher end and much more than $200 - Stuart Weitzman, Prada, Loeffler Randall etc.

I ended up with the Ecco Esmereldas which are 13" but the shaft height is also short at 13". I also took a 36 and someone else on the forum found that the calf circumference was larger for larger foot sizes.

Good luck!

Vldoo, I've been looking for the same thing as you and have so far been unsuccessful. I'm probably going to do a custom order from duo boots so I can get something that actually fits. Some of the La Canadienne boots at Nordstrom might work for you, but they're more than $200:

Lace-up Doc Martens are also 13" around the calf and are adjustable with laces. Plus they come in different colors (only black at Nordstrom though).

You also might look at Marshall's/TJ Maxx - I found some 13" Liz Claiborne riding boots there a couple weeks ago for aroung $60.

I'm sorry they cost more than $200 but Duo Boots are available in many calf circumferences
