Body type help - ETA photos

Hi there,

Just trying to determine my body type once and for all. Have used a few online calculators and they are all giving me different results. Can you guys help?

Measurements are:
shoulders: 37"
bustline: 32"
waist: 28.5"
hip: 35.5"

Different calculators have given me: rectangle, inverted triangle, and hourglass. Very helpful indeed

Appreciate your insights!

I think photos are more helpful than measurements. Can you post a photo in form-fitting workout gear or something similar?

Hmm, if forced to pick one, I would probably agree with slim hourglass.
But, I also see rectangle and a strong shoulder line, so I can see why
you're getting mixed results from the calculators. How's that for definitive

Slim rectangle-hourglass with square shoulders, similar to me. Except you look more willowy and slender.

Because of my other body type modifiers (long neck, small bust) and my style persona, I tend to follow the rectangle guidelines, but I also pay attention to the hourglass ones at times, especially for my lower half.

Some styles that work for ITs also work for me because of the strong shoulder line and relatively slim hips.

Thanks carambola and Suz, I will take a look at the rectangle ones and IT ones too. I do notice that if I emphasize the shoulders, it looks wrong, although usually okay if I leave them alone.

In that third picture, you look EXACTLY LIKE KATE MIDDLETON. I see why people compare you!

I think slim rectangle/hourglass with square shoulders. You're shaped a lot like me, only you look quite a bit taller.

Thanks for the input - I'm actually 5'5" so pretty average height-wise - I think I'm more long-legged than long-bodied so that might be why I look a little taller. Glad to know of some 'body twins' that I can learn from!

Ideal maybe, but I've had Victoria Secret tell me they don't make bras small enough for me ... everyone's got problems ... just sayin' ...

I got some bra tips for you when we see each other this weekend. I have had that same experience at Victoria's Secret, yeah....

But I have a few good TO leads for lingerie at different price points....

Suz, I will not be able to make it in the end I have one friend's business grand opening to attend in the morning/early afternoon and then another friend's 30th birthday (which is just mean since I am turning 40 soon) in the evening ... I was hoping the birthday would fall on a different date, but alas. So I don't think I can make it down and back in time in addition to those. I sent an e-mail but maybe just hit reply instead of reply all.

But glad to know that I am not alone with VS and I'll take any tips ya got ... I'm told I need to get the "cutlets" from La Senza ...

So sorry I will miss meeting you in person (THIS time round, at least). And thanks for all the help, to all!!

No, you really are quite a bit taller. I'm only 5'1". But your shape is still similar -- my measurements are 33.5"-27.5"-34", so very close to yours, but your extra four inches makes you more willowy. I'm definitely a rectangle because my waist doesn't "go in" as much as yours (no room between the bottom of my ribcage and top of my hips!). But we're close enough that we could definitely compare notes. I see you wear your belt low, like me.

You and Suz aren't so different, either.

Most of the guidelines for rectangle apply to me, but I've also found that some of the ones for IT work too, because of my shoulder line. Your shoulders look just like mine, so you might find it useful to check some of the IT stuff.

Rectangle with IT tendencies. Are your shoulders broad, TG? It's hard to make an accurate assessment with the angle of the photo - which makes your shoulders look broader because it's taken "top down".

If not, I would say Rectangle. You are an athletic creature. xo

Thanks Angie - rectangle it is then. I am not broad-shouldered particularly, although I am not at my best in tops that accentuate the shoulders, for example a fluttery short-sleeve. So I will follow the IT guidelines for that, and rectangle for the rest.

Late to this, but I agree, rectangle. You are slimmer tthan I am in the hips and legs, but we have a very similar body shape I think.

Okay, rectangle it is! You do look like you have a lovely little waist though!

You could probably use guidelines from each of the groups you mentioned depending on what you wanted to accentuate or minimise.

VS - what the?? Have you tried Calvin Klein? If you don't need a lot of support perhaps you could try some of those gorgeous, lace triangle bras (that I have oft wanted to wear....).

Also, totally sympathizing you with on VS. They don't make a small enough band OR a large enough cup for me.

I think it looks as if you have a definite waist but no matter what you look great! I think slim soft rectangle since you have a waist.

I actually want to say IT with slight rectangular tendencies. But it looks like it's agreed upon that it's rectangle/IT! My reason for picking IT is the shoulder in proportion to the hips (broader shoulder), but you already mentioned that the shoulders aren't particularly broad. So... Yay!!!

Hey Torontogirl, we are almost body twins! When I saw your photos I thought wow! I think we are close! I have a couple inches on you on the hips, and probably a bit on the waist, although I cinched the tape at the smallest part of my so-called-waist above my belly button I did the exercise fully clothed in jeans & tshirt but got 37.5-38 shoulder, 33 bust, 28.5 waist, 37.5 hip. If you are rectangle with IT tendencies, then I must be rectangle with pear tendencies. I must ask Angie and do some more work on that. I'm 5'7.5".
I usually cry when I go to Victoria Secret or la Senza....it sucks when you can barely fit a training bra
