Body positivity

everyone, I am new to this community, it’s nice to meet all of you. I am an
intern at Shop1323.com and there I have been given a great opportunity to learn
about small business, and fashion boutiques.

I have been thinking a lot about
running my own businesses someday, and
want to keep the ideals of body positivity, and inspiration in line with my potential
future career. I guess the discussion I want to start is as shoppers, do you
notice when shops are more inclusive and positive, (such as in their advertisements).
I think I usually take notice when stores make an effort to make everyone feel
welcomed. Just wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on this?

Yes. I absolutely take notice and do my best to frequent shops or companies that are inclusive. That means using models with different body types, of different races and ethnicities, of different ages.

Yes, I suppose I do and that I feel more comfortable in decidedly mixed company. I am not, for example, any more comfortable in a group all of my own race than I would be in a group all of another race.

I guess my curiosity comes from the fact that i notice that more and more shops and even big companies have more variety when it comes to the people they have representing there looks and brand... I wonder if I am just noticing this more or if it is a new trend happening.. either way i like that there is more representation for people out there.

I definitely support a move toward more inclusive and varied presentation of "brand identity." While some companies and magazines are making efforts in this area, others (Lululemon, Kit and Ace, I'm looking at you!) are decidedly not. I grew up on the J.C. Penney catalog. Most of the models were young and white, but they were also mostly low-key -- middling in height and pretty, but not glamorous. Newer advertising seems to be more "aspirational," and the pressure to look like a VS model or a celebrity has grown exponentially. For example, try to google "hairstyles" and find versions that aren't modeled by celebrities.
