Blush - Cream or powder?

My mac powder blush is almost finished so I may hit sephora tomorrow and pick up a new one. I had a facial today and the esthetician used nars cream blush in orgasm. I had been considering getting the powder version.

Which do you prefer? Cream or powder? Any favorite brands?

I have always used powder blush. I feel like I have better control with it than I do with a cream blush. I use Mac or Nars. I love the name of Nars blushes. Mine is Deep Throat.

I prefer cream blush because I find that powder does not work as well with the aging ( ) skin.

I prefer cream blush because it seems to stay on better for me throughout the day. Also, I often skip foundation, and I think that the cream base helps the blush adhere better to unprepped skin.

i have orgasm in the creme stick--very natural flush, hard to over-apply and i've tried. what sveta said--kinder to aging skin.

that said--i've been nursing a t leclerc powder in rose sable that i will use until i hit pan. more oomph to the color. i apply after a tinted bb cream while still moist--less drying. if i've applied too much or need to set the make-up, i finish with t leclerc powder in amande.

what is your current make-up routine, dianthus?

BJ, I don't have much of a routine. I am allergic to scents so use Khiels night cream during the day (unscented), a bit of navy eyeliner, blush, lipstick and a bit of brow filler. That is it unless I am going out and then I put on a bit of eyeshadow.

I am a HUGE fan of Benetint. I think you'd call that a liquid stain - neither cream or powder. I've used it for years. I've used all kinds of powders and creams - including Nar's Multiple stick in Orgasm and the Nars Powder blush in Orgasm - which is a great neutral color. But Benetint gives a dewy highlight to cheeks that is more natural and I think goes with most people's coloring - they now offer several colors but I use the original. You have to work fairly quickly but once you get the hang of it, you can control the amount of color and it's easy. Just FYI - blush is my "thang". If I was stranded on a desert island - I would take Benetint.

Cream blush all the way for me! I love the dewy look that it gives. My favorite is Urban Decay because I am allergic to mica and they don't use it many of their products.

Yikes, so many votes for cream blush. I've never tried it. How easy is it to apply? I would have assumed it would just kind of disappear into the skin in the same way foundations seem to vanish as the day goes on. Does it really have staying power ladies?

Diane, I have never tried cream blush either! I like that it's easy to sweep just a little powder blush on with a big brush -- I don't like using very much, and I have a big aversion to very obvious/visible blush, so I've always stuck with what feels like a subtle application. It just always seemed to me like cream would require more careful application and more blending. (I use Nars powder blush in "Orgasm" However, they're making a lot of blushes these days with too much sparkle in them. Maybe I should try out a cream formulation next time I'm in Sephora...

Yes, like you Janet, I would imagine it takes more blending to get right. Knowing me I'd end up with two round circles of colour lol!

I've read so many times that cream blush is the way to go for us women of a "certain age" - but every time I use it, I don't like the look of it. I find I can get powder to fluff on all over and be more subtle and natural than a cream. I have Orgasm powder blush and only wear it in the summer when I'm tanned. It's got a fair bit of shimmer to it, and is quite pinky-peachy beachy. I love it, but find it's too much for winter. I might be paler than you though Cheryl. I like the MAC mineralize blush too, btw. Right now I am using a Lancome powder that was in a gwp that I love .

Diane and Janet, it is super easy to apply with the fingertips and then you can blend until you feel that the coverage is just right. I think the key for coverage looking real and not too much is getting something that is fairly sheer and not intensely pigmented. I don't know for sure about staying power. I haven't paid much attention, but it would be easy to carry in the purse and reapply (although I don't).
100% Pure makes a good blush too, but I think it has mica, so I had to discontinue use.

Diane, it's like a giant crayon. Two swipes across the cheekbone, blendblendblend with fingertips, rub what's left across my forehead close to the hairline and down my nose and chin tip. Color fades a bit but stayed glowy.

Agree with Sveta. I use a cream blush by Kevin Aucoin called Liquifushcia. It has great staying powder and I apply it with my fingers. I usually use a highlighting powder just above it.

I am sooo lazy with makeup -- all that blending sounds like too much work for me! LOL I have never reapplied blush later in the day, after putting it on in the morning. But...my skin has pinkish undertones anyway, and I tend to flush easily anyway (especially after a glass of wine), so I feel like blush is down there on my makeup priority list.

As I have gotten older I stopped using all powder. if you used cream blush, be sure you are not using a foundation that turns to a powder form on the skin. I like Bobbie Brown or MAC cream blush. They seem to blend better for me. Also, cream blush has a tendency to sink into my skin when it is dryer so I usually apply it then do another part of my face, then apply some more after my glasses are on. Depending which specs I have on determines how much color I need.

I've always heard to match the formula to your foundation- so cream/liquid/gel blush over liquid foundation and powder blush over powder/mineral.

I had used mineral foundation for years but realized a while ago that it was not doing my aging skin any favors. So now I use Bobbi Brown cream blush over Clinique foundation or just a BB cream.
