Anya, I consider myself warned

Lyn, I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, but that's a good point about #2 being sort of a transitional outfit from fall to summer.

Thanks, Suzanne! However, I'm a bit acronym-ignorant. What's TFS?

Isis, I'm happily digging my pencil skirt rut deeper and deeper. I think it's reached "trench" stage by now. And I don't plan to come up for air any time soon!
My philosophy is that pencil skirts are my "pants" - I have as many pairs and color varieties of pencil skirts as some women do dress pants, and basically that is what I use them for.

Briar, I actually struggle with wearing black shoes! For a long time I felt like my shoes were so boring, so I started adding color... and suddenly I had next to no black footwear. Last year I bought my first pair of black shoes (a cute pair of comfy mary janes) in years and have had fun wearing black footwear because I WANT to, not because I feel I have no other options.
I'd definitely encourage you to try at least one pair of colorful shoes. I'm amazed at how versatile certain colors, such as bright cherry red, can be when I try them with different outfit and color combinations.

Inge, me too - I love those Long & Leans. I've still given up on non-denim pants but am SO glad that I have a few pairs of jeans that are winners.

Debora, you are totally welcome to shamelessly copy my shameless copy.

Suz, that is so fun! Where did you get your necklace? Mine is actually two separate necklaces doubled over one another. I actually picked them up at the LOFT outlet this past weekend when I met up with some of the Seattle/Puget Sound YLF crowd.

DragonflyJane, I just spat out my tea laughing. Oh dear!
Generally I (and some others here) use the term "rut", such as "black rut", to mean getting stuck in a pattern. Kind of like how my dog used to run back and forth along the same path in the backyard and ended up creating a rut through the grass.
But I can certainly understand how the other meaning would come to mind too, at least before reading the post!

Claire, thank you. I'm just so amazed at how this cut improves when it is DIRTY. I'm trying to learn now to wash it every other day, since the style not only looks awesome on the in-between days, but I'm sure it's going to be better for my hair not to have to shampoo it so frequently. Appreciate the encouragement!

Oh, these are great looks! I love looking at your outfits every time, they make me smile (in a good way!) no matter what. You look fab as always! And it's really funny how colorful your black rutting is.

Agreed, Astrid - I guess more than anything, I'm just drawn to using black as my main neutral base rather than mixing it up between black, cognac brown, navy blue, or gray as I did more typically in the past. Just a change!
