How do your BF jeans fit around the waist? I bought a pair of Banana Republic jeans back in the winter. While they fit perfectly fresh out of the laundry, within a few hours, they stretch out a size to the extent that the material under the belt is bunched up. I thought this was an issue until I read Angie's post from 2012, where she mentioned that they ought to scrunch up.

Recently, I've tried the 7FAM Josphenia's, which fit like cuffed skinny jeans, not the look I was seeking;
DL1961's Riley jeans, which were huge at the waist and had too low a rise;
and C/E's Fling jeans, which are also huge at the waist, but have a higher rise.

Because of my hips/thighs, I don't have the option of sizing down, and I don't like purchasing pants that are too tight from the outset.

Is there are a point at which the bunching looks like you're wearing ill-fitting clothing vs sporting a particular style? I love the way the Rag and Bone Dre jeans look on the model, where they seem to fit at the hip, and just fall straight through, but that's probably due to different body types and strategic pinning.
