Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

"Banana" tunic... too tight to be worn alone?

I think April mentioned last week that we scored a bunch of great pieces from the Tulle sale. One of these was a "banana" colored tunic. It's pretty snug, and I have no idea what to pair it with. As you'll see in the photos, it is not particularly forgiving- you can see all pants buttons, pockets, bumps, bra straps, etc. right through. I'm thinking it may work best *under* something... your thoughts?

It's really cute, but I see what you mean. Maybe a vest or a blazer on top of it?

I second CS, I think all you need is a grey vest and you are good to go. In cooler weather I would wear it with a black blazer over the top.

So pretty. It would look nice with a top layering piece, but I actually love it just the way you're wearing it too.

A vest... now *that's* a good idea! I'll start looking around.

It looks like the sash covers a lot of the bumps and clothing lines that show through on the bottom. On the top, I love the vest idea, a jacket would work, and a fitted cardigan as well. M, do you have any cardigans?

Being that we're both new to color, I'm a little uncertain what to suggest with the yellow, besides the gray suggested above. I have the same issue with red pairings: white is too candy-cane, blue is too stars-and-stripes, green is too Christmas elf. (I can see charcoal gray becoming my go-to neutral!)

What about turquoise with the yellow?

Silvery gray is fab with yellow, too.

Lovely! You can wear it alone because you have an excelent figure, but the ideia of a vest is also great.

Love it on you! I got the same tunic in cherry. I'm thinking a longish knit vest for mine? I don't have said vest, so I don't actually know what it would look like.

More thoughts...

One is to scrunch up the bottom a bit instead of pulling it flat, so the clothing bumps are less noticeable.

Two is to try it with the cream raw silk top (jacket?) we found in that thrift shop. I think the cream with the soft yellow would be great.

What about wearing this over a pair of the PONTE pants that are coming back in style that Angie posted about the other day? some of those have a smooth top that would work with this...

Loving the idea of a gray vest with this! (Said vest is not in my closet, however.)

April- no cardis except for the ones you gifted and a black one that's sort of tightly crocheted.
RE: Color: Turquoise *what* with the yellow tunic? Pants? (Heehee- now that would be a fashion challenge...from no color to all color...maybe paired with the bright red shoes...:) Seriously- in the first photo I'm wearing those darker green pants (sort of blah with this i think) and in the second I'm wearing the "date pants" (snug charcoal/black with silvery pinstripes).
RE: Bumps: I had a middle of the night brainstorm that those knit pants featured on the blog yesterday would work nicely (no zips, buttons, pockets). Yes, I'm having middle-of-the-night brainstorms about outfits. Is that a sign of YLF addiction?
RE: Crunching up the bottom: Tried that. It accentuates the belly and looks untidy. Tidy might be one of my fashion goal words. ;)
RE: The cream silk top: I'll try that...

CR- glad to hear you got one too! Do you think the long vest paired with the long tunic would be too much *long*? Would you belt it?

I was hoping to challenge myself today with this one, but it may need a bit more steeping time in the closet. ;)

Hmmm, maybe a longer cami underneath?? I also like the idea of layering with a vest or cardi. I like yellow with white, navy, and grey. Red & turquoise are also great pairings but not for the faint of heart!!

It's the perfect length top for leggings, don't you think?

Otherwise, do try a long cami underneath - one with lots of stretch. Or a loose filmy cami, which can often work to help the top float over bumps. Experiment.

How about a cascading cardi over it? Besides grey and cream I could see a dark purple (either bluish like eggplant or reddish like a very deep fushia) with it...not too much color.

I have nothing new to add, but I agree that it's a great tunic!

I think it looks good and I like your creativity in using the sash. Great job!
