ballet flat crocs

I know crocs are a no-no, but are the ballet flats acceptable? I am looking for a waterproof shoe to wear to Chicago. I have a feeling it is going to be raining at some point. I was told to look at Wellies. Is that an actual brand of shoe or just a nickname? So what do you all think of this shoe? Should I keep looking? Any more suggestions? Thanks!

Wellington's (or Wellies for short) are a type of boot. They are rubber rain boots:

If you don't want to go that route, La Canadienne makes waterproof shoes and boots. They are pricey, but I hear they are well worth the price, and very comfortable. I am currently saving up for some LC boots for this fall. Plus, their options are a lot more stylish than Crocs (even the ballet flats), so you can wear them even when the weather isn't bad. Honestly, I think the croc ballet flats look as good as the Wellies, but I'm not extremely fond of either. Kiwi sells a weatherproof spray that you can use to waterproof most shoes. I would go that route, but then I don't have nearly $200 to spend on a pair of waterproof shoes.

I do own a pair of wellies and I do wear them...but I was only joking about wearing them in Chicago for a rain proof option. They are too casual for what you're looking for. Sorry, my cheekiness didn't come thru on the post.

What would you suggest Angie? The LC's are way too expensive for me, at least for such a quick purchase. Thanks for the suggestions Ana.

I'm not a fan of rubber shoes myself Sarah, but I don't know what else would work. Would the spray really protect leather? I have sprayed shoes with that stuff before, but I never purposely wear my good shoes in the rain.

I found a pair of bright green rubber Sigerson Morrison pointy ballet flats on Ebay. I'm thinking about bidding on those. So is it the rubber shoe you don't like Angie or is it just Crocs?

I'm not against rubber shoes, Shannon. I wear wellies in Winter. Wellies are supposed to me made of rubber, ballet flats should be prettier I think. I can’t seem to get my head around rubber ballet flats. They’re like the jellies we use to wear in the ‘80’s. Does that ring a bell?

Are you set on wearing ballet flats? Can you wear closed shoes instead? I live in wet Seattle. It rains a lot. My rubber soled Converse are perfect at $39 a pop. I have never had wet feet in them. Straight leg jeans won’t drag on the ground and you’ll stay dry as biscuits. That’s what I would do.

Against your better judgment Angie, I went ahead and purchased the above shoes on Ebay. The price was right and I thought they would work for my purpose. I'm not so concerned about keeping my feet dry as I am about keeping my shoes dry. I want something that I can stash away in my bag and change into if needed. I'm trying to pack extremely light for my trip and only want to bring one pair of shoes and these, so I would hate for my only pair to be wet. I hope you don't think they are too hideous. Hey, the color is good!

Inge, I did really like your last suggestion. They were cute, but expensive for a rubber shoe. I liked the idea of a wedge. Thanks!

I actually like those shoes Shannon. I normally don't like pointy toes but those are somehow less aggressive because of the color and style. I think the Crocs flats were hideous, to be honest. Glad you went for those instead.

I hear your motivation, Shannon! I've seen the green ebay shoes in the flesh and I adore the colour. I do not think that they are hideous! I hope that the fulfill your needs in every way. Give us feedback on how the rubber fabrication worked for you.
