Baggy ankled boots

I ordered some new boots and they feel a bit baggy around the ankles. What do you think?
The new boot is on the left and (just for comparison) by old boots, which fit better (but are wearing out) are on the right.

There is a difference definitely but I don't think they look too big at all. I have scrawny ankles though so I may be more forgiving than others.

I echo dianthus. Are you wearing the socks you would normally wear? It's great if you can get a pair that fit like gloves like your first pair, but harder I think.

You can have them "taken in" by a cobbler.

There's definitely a difference - but quite acceptable looking. I'm fussier about the gap at the top of the boot - and both pairs pass the test with flying colours.

To me, it's just a different look. I like the new boots -- but if the scrunch is going to bother you, you might want to return them, especially if the leather is stiff and you think it's going to dig into your ankles. I had a pair that did that and I could never fix them.

Are they comfortable, Anne? I am pretty sure that I would never have noticed this if you hadn't pointed it out and put them side by side.

I like them, but I have skinny ankles and would probably be one to hunt for a pair that fit better or I would see if a cobbler could fix them. I like the look of a boot with a tapered ankle.

Anne, your old boots looks great fit wise. The new ones looks too saggy:( I actually returned a pair that did this, it would drive me nuts.

I actually like the little bit of wrinkling at the ankle but I see that may not be the most popular opinion!

I don't think I'd have noticed the bagginess if you hadn't pointed it out - especially as this is the fit I always get on my scrawny ankles! To my eye, it's just a different look from your older pair (agreeing with Aliona). They're nice boots and the fit at the top looks perfect.

That said, if the appearance has already given you pause, I would worry that it may continue to bug you. Therefore, if you have time, maybe look around just a little bit more before making a final decision? (Though I do appreciate that you don't have limitless time at your disposal.)

I prefer a not-too-tight ankle on a boot. I like the new ones better.

It's whatever you prefer, though. If the buckling around the ankle is going to bug you and you prefer skintight boots, then take them back.

I also prefer a less tight boot overall, and I very much like the appearance of the new ones. I never even considered that boots should be snug around the ankle.

Thanks everyone. Lots who don't mind - some who do. I THINK these are comfortable - but I really prefer a sleeker fit. I am going to keep looking during the return window
