Finding the items you need at the right price

Hayden-Harnett bags (attn cciele)

I am not really a bag person, and all bags I have are inexpensive and nothing special. This spring I got a cheap messenger bag that I like, but it's not going to last very long. I've been thinking of getting a new better bag this fall (this would be my only big purchase this season) and had my eye on a few at NAS - but I still have to make it to the store and I don't feel strongly about any of them.
After Cathy (cciele) mentioned Hayden-Harnett a few times, I browsed their site and I do like their Conrad bag, which happens to be on sale. I have never seen their stuff irl, so I was wondering if anyone has any input. How is the quality? Are they heavy? Do any stores carry them so I can see them in person? Thanks!

There's a store locator thingie on their website Marianne, maybe that will help a bit?

Hi Marianne,

I have some HH bags (OK, I have five! I'm a bit obsessed!), including the Conrad bag. I've found the quality to be excellent. Some of the bags can be on the heavy side, especially if they have a lot of hardware. I went ahead and popped my Conrad bag on the kitchen scale -- Empty, it weighs 1 pound, 15 ounces.

Hope this helps!

Hm, can you tell that I like Hayden-Harnett (HH)? I don't even want to count how many of their bags I have! :) I find the quality to be better than Coach. It's a good mid-range line.

The Conrad is very nice; I've tried it on before in person. It looks small but can hold quite a bit. I didn't find it to be heavy for a bag made of mid-weight leather; the exact weight would depend on the color you get, since each color leather has a different feel.

Clutch Seattle carries HH bags. Hopefully you'll find a Conrad in person!

Right now, HH is having a summer sale, with free shipping (not sure how long the free shipping lasts). They also have free returns for items not marked Final Sale, or over 75% off, so it's a pain-free way to check the bags out. However, sometimes they can take awhile refunding your credit card if you do decide to return; they are a fairly small operation and get swamped during sales, although they've been getting better over the years.

Oh, if you have any problems with their bags (e.g., broken hardware), HH will take it back and fix it for you, free of charge. However, they send the bags to Asia (Hong Kong, I think) to get fixed, so you'd be without bag for a few months.

Wow, thank you, ladies, this is more info than I could ever hope for! Neatnic, special thank you for the trouble of weighing it. Cathy, I didn't see the free shipping thing on their site ... hmm... I would prefer to check it out in person but I might take that route instead. Perhaps once I see the NAS offerings...
And yes, Cathy, I never heard of them before but I got curious from your posts! :)

Hm, I guess the free shipping was an offer through the email list! Enter the code SUMMER at checkout to get free shipping; good July 19 - July 24. Let us know what you get, if anything! :)

Oh, thank you for the code! That leaves me a couple of days to decide :)
