Returned safe and sound from my trip to the UK to see my Mother and clear out her house. The nursing home she is in is in need of updating but I watched the staff closely whilst she was there and found them to to be very good. I was there a lot at various different times. When I wasn't with her my brother and I cleared out her house. It was extremely sad as I felt as though we were "getting rid" of hers and our lifetime of memories. Of course we have kept some things but I could not keep as much as I would like as it was just impractical. I took a lot of things in to show her so we had quite a trip down memory lane ! He room is tiny, she is on the list for a larger one when it becomes available. We are keeping a small piece of furniture so when it happens she can have something from home. I packed up some of her knick knacks and her friend will store them until a larger room comes up so she can see them again !
It was a physically exhausting trip (think 2 full dumpsters !) and emotionally draining but it is now mostly done. It was good to see her and although very sad to see her in a nursing home I know that she is getting much better care than she was at home. I will be going over again hopefully after Christmas.
