Attending A Ballet...

I know this will sound odd but I don't know what to wear to a ballet. My friend & I are going to Romeo and Juliet on Friday night and since I'm usually dancing, I don't have to pick an outfit out. My friend will not dress up but my mom wants me to because of the event and lovely venue. It will be 32 degrees and the theatre is a bit nippy. First, if I get some ideas, I may be able to share some pics of what I have.. ( quite limited ) I am a younger American teen so please keep that in mind

I used to go to the ballet very regularly and would see all kinds of outfits. Some way too casual for the venue...jeans and sweatshirts...and some almost black tie.

I would vote with your mom...dress up a little! Wear something pretty, don't go the jeans route. Other than that, no real rules. I would try to wear some warmer top layer that you could take off if the theater warms up. Once everyone gets in their seats things can warm up.

I liked wearing tea length dresses to the ballet. Warmer. Wool coat and scarf. Short heeled pumps. But depends what's in your closet. A dress I should think.

I'd go for something simple and classy. When I was a teenager I went to a lot of plays and orchestra concerts and I'd usually wear slacks and a pretty but understated blouse or sweater dressed up with nice looking jewelry (higher quality costume jewelry works fine if you don't have any fine jewelry--think something you'd find in a department store jewelry counter rather than a fast fashion store like Forever 21), or I'd wear a dress in a classic silhouette, again with nice jewelry. If your ears are pierced, some sparkly earrings or pearl studs would be lovely, or a necklace with any kind of gemstone or a simple silver or gold pendant. And finish it off with a great hairstyle. I don't know what all you have, but those are some general suggestions. I hope you enjoy the ballet!

I agree with your mom. It's nice to make the occasion even more special by dressing up a little. I'd go with smart pants or skirt with a pretty top, or a dress - whatever you feel most comfortable in. Kaelyn makes a good point about doing something special with your hair: most people will be seeing you from the shoulders up!
It will be lovely for you to enjoy your ballet from the other side of the stage. Have a wonderful time.

I'll put some outfits together and add some pictures so you guys will know what I have and maybe you can tell me to switch something or add something! Thanks for your opinions. Sad thing is, most people who will be attending probably will not be dressing up (like my friend). That's just the way our town is and I don't want to look off... I do want to set a bit of an example though...

I understand now...I was wondering if you were a pro ballerina. You are are teen who dances...even more fantastic!

If you want to dress up but not to the extreme, just wear the nicest pants or skirt you have with a pretty top. Do your hair like you would if you were dancing, except just slightly more loose and romantic...just a little statement that you know the biz! Add some sparkly earrings...delicate or statement, whichever suits you.

Honestly, teen girls can't really go wrong. You glow no matter what!
