Ask Angie: What to wear with skirts/dresses in the fall & winter

I love wearing dresses but as the weather gets cooler, I'm always confused about what to wear to keep my legs warm (I live in a cold climate). What shoes go well with tights, and what kind of tights do you recommend? I see people wearing tall boots with skirts and dresses, but what are the guidelines in terms of the distance between the hem of the skirt and the height of the boot? Especially for petites, this can be a problem. Thanks!

Hi cr. There are no rules for dress lengths and knee high boots. It depends on your body type, the style of the dress and the style of the boots. Loads of variables at play at once I’m afraid.

As far as tights go, I like to stick to sheer. I don’t fancy opaques unless they’re supposed to look like leggings. Pretty sheer or pretty sheer patterned tights are what I feel are flop proof with knee high boots.
