Ask Angie: What Should I Wear to My High School Reunion???

Okay...my 20th reunion is coming up in October in St. Louis, MO. I don't wanna wait until the last minute to prepare. So, I'm putting it out there now, and looking for head-to-toe outfit ideas. Help!

I've been to all of my reunions (we have one every 5 years), but I feel like this is "the big one." I want to knock it out of the park. The activities for the weekend as follows:

Friday - October 2, 2009
5:30 - 7:00 PM
Happy Hour at JBS with the new headmaster, Andy Abbott, in the Kuehner Gallery.

Saturday - October 3, 2009
12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Family picnic on the JBS Quad, to be followed by the football game vs. Ste. Genevieve. Alumni, their parents, and kids are all welcome at this complimentary picnic.

7:00 - 10:00 PM
Class of '89 reunion at Monarch in Maplewood, MO. We'll have some great food and wine. Visit the website for more information, to RSVP (by 9/21, please), or to purchase tickets ($65 per person).

Okay...get yourself a cuppa coffee/tea, cuz I'm about to get vulnerable here...

I'm excited to see my classmates (90 of us = small class); but I also feel a bit nervous/insecure. Many of them are very successful in their careers (doctors, lawyers, actors, etc.). Now, my marriage is intact and I've been blessed with 2 beautiful children, and I know that is quite an accomplishment. As the only model in my class (as far as I know), I've done some cool things too. However, I'm not where I want to be, career-wise. Plus, this year has been very difficult for my family in many ways; and I definitely don't want to "wear" that. I want to look and feel fabulous and have fun.

I was struck by your personal note (we’ll get to your outfits, which you will be fab in, as we all know).

Reunions are moments when you want to show that you’ve done well in life—and it’s difficult if you feel that you’re not up to the standard that your classmates have set, whatever that standard is. The irony is that your doctor and lawyer classmates might be envious of you. Being a lawyer can be pretty boring—but modeling, that’s glamorous and exciting!

My younger brother, who did very well for himself in Silicon Valley in the palmy days, went back to his Midwestern high school reunion to show off. Who did he meet? The other class millionaire—the guy who’d won the lottery.

Just goes to show that the best way to go to a reunion is at ease with yourself and your life, however it’s turned out. (And it doesn’t hurt to look great, either!)

Your class sounds so well organized - that's a lot of events! The weather should be cool, crisp and lovely that time of year, right? I'm thinking that your denim collection and not-leather vest are going to be versatile items for the casual events. And boots for footwear -- but since you're in Phoenix, do you own any boots?

I have 1 pair of black knee boots. They are pointy-toed. I paid dearly for them. *sigh*

I'd love something new with a more rounded toe...

As for your life - I think it's a HUGE accomplishment to have a successful marriage and raise children. How many of those doctors and lawyers are miserable every day when they go home and which would they rather have?

I also found at my 20th college reunion that each of us had found our niches more or less. And we each had struggles and heartaches in our lives as well. Everyone has challenges, many of them significant. We just don't often speak of them. And they don't speak any less of us.
