Ask Angie: Need Handbag Help!

Okay...I know that this is one of your specialties.

I need help nailing a bag for both of my reunion outfits. Here are the outfits, as you recall:

The dress is maroon/wine-colored. The skirt is "green ochre," or a green-gold color. All else is black.

I would like to purchase 1 clutch or handbag that I can carry with both outfits, that will pack a punch for years to come (very chic, but not overly trendy). I'm looking for something black with texture. I've looked at a lot of stuff, talked to and played with many sales associates, and am truly overwhelmed. And I don't have much time left.

I don't mind spending for something that I truly love, and will keep for a long time. So, budget-wise:

$0-$500 is very easy
$500-$1000 is a stretch
$1000+ is over the top, but doable

Would you give me 1-3 recommendations for each price range? I'd super appreciate it. Thanks!

I’d be happy to Leslie! But I have a 12 hour client day today and cannot offer recommendations until tomorrow or the next day. Perhaps someone else will chime in the interim?

Still interested as to why you’d want to carry one clutch/bag for both outfits. And why it has to be black.The one outfit is clearly dressier than the other. My suggestion is still a bag for the one and clutch for the other. Not necessarily black. But if you’d prefer to carry one black clutch for both, your wish is my command :0)

Btw, Kyle and I offered suggestions of other items on your previous thread – did you see them? I don’t think you responded. Did you shop for accessories? If so, let’s see the loot!

Leslie (or is it Lesley? I am forgetting), I know exactly which clutch you need. Go to http://www.annefontaine.com and look in their catalog for the snakeskin clutch with rosettes. Mouth watering. I *think* it's in the 500-1000 range.

I do agree with Angie that two different bags for your two outfits would be better but I understand that you don't necessarily want to purchase two $500+ items at once.

My idea is that you purchase a great bag that you can use ALL the time, and a clutch that comes out to play once in a while. Both together to cost below $500.

You need to go to the Rack. Do you have one close by? I was there with clients yesterday and the bag and clutch assortment is KILLER. At least 60% off designer pieces. Take a look!
