Ask Angie: MJ Fishnet Skirt Hose?

Hi Angie,

I think you might have this skirt:

I finally found it on sale and bought it this morning (yay!). Now Sarah, Patience and I all have it, which is kind of funny. But, Sarah and I are having trouble figuring out which hose to wear with it if it's chilly outside. Would microfishnet be too much fishnet because of the pattern on the skirt? Opaque black hose just don't seem right if we're not wearing knee high boots. I think it's too casual or something. Patience wears black pantyhose, but her skin is darker than ours, so they don't "stand out" in an odd way (actually, it looks really fabulous on her). But it's a look that doesn't work for Sarah or me. What do you wear with the skirt?

Thanks for your help! :)

I don't know the answer to your question Ana, but I think Angie has guests over this week and will be scarce on the forum. I think she popped in this morning for a few minutes though so perhaps she'll respond.

Microfishnet might be just the thing with that skirt. Have you tried it yet?

That skirt is amazing Ana! And how fun that you three girls all got it, and will still look very different wearing it.

I would definitely try a subtle microfishnet, e.g.

Or how about microfishnet hose with polka dots, the contrast with the skirt might work?

Ana, that second pair looks awfully similar to the ones your husband brought back from England.
My concern with the sheer stockings is that the shade will vary between ankle, calf, knee, etc. and my understanding is that is not a very flattering look, especially when one already has bigger legs. I'm so pale that black is probably the worst sheer color to wear. Patience can pull it off, and I really liked the look with her skirt.
I'm not opposed to trying anything, but I have tried sheer black or a sheerer opaque tight and had this problem.
PS: It's really fun to have the same skirt as my fellow Austin YLFers. :)

Sarah: I am with you on worrying about the shade varying, but I think if you buy a size up so you aren't stretching the tights much, this might be avoided. I think that's what is recommended when wearing patterned tights as well (keeps the pattern from being distrorted).

I tried the skirt, Ana, but it did not work. It was far too short and the belt was too big. I don’t know what I was thinking. It was the perfect length for petite Patience. I guess I was overly hopeful! Hope you have better luck.

Have you tried PLAIN micro fishnets, yet?

I haven't tried plain microfishnet hose because I don't currently own any. I will give it a shot when I get a chance to pick some up. Thinking about it, the hose might be a moot point anyway, because I just ordered the skirt today, and by the time it gets here, it might be warm enough to wear without any stockings at all. But it's good to plan for next year! :)

Sorry it didn't work out for you, Angie. :( I've tried the skirt on in a size 6, but it was just a bit too small for me. I think it came to my knees, if I remember correctly. It will probably hit me in the same place it hits Patience since we have the same inseam length, but my torso is a bit longer than hers, I think. We're about the same height.

Uh-oh, then mine might be too short. :( It currently sits higher on my waist because it is a smaller size, but I imagine (as with all my other pencil skirts) it will sit lower and lower as the pounds continue to melt away. :)
I *did* return the other MJ skirt, and thought this was a much better alternative for me. I have plain micro fishnets that I hope will do the trick. I'll play around with it and take photos.
Lee, perhaps I will try one size up in hose. I'm just really hesitant to purchase them. I guess they could always be worn with dresses and tall boots if nothing else.

I think that plain black micro fishnets are the best option too. Sadly, I removed this skirt from my wish list after hearing it is too short for Angie. since we are the same height, it would be too short for me too.
