Finding the items you need at the right price

Ask Angie: Help finding long enough sleeves?

I have ridiculously long arms... I think my "wingspan" is 6'3". So it's really hard to find long sleeved shirts that actually are long on me. So I tend towards 3/4 length, or talls if I can get them. (Why I love Gap, BR, and J.Crew)

Anyway...I'm looking for a new coat, but I don't really love the ones on the above mentioned sites. Do you know of any other places or brands that have longer sleeve lengths? Or is there a way to let them out? I looked at a couple of Tahari coats today, and there was only an inch of fabric inside the cuff, before it sewed into the lining...

Thanks!

I have a very similar problem--I call them my "ape arms." For me, I have the biggest problems with long-sleeved t-shirts and blouses that button. Sweaters are usually not a problem. Are you also tall? I'm not--I'm 5'5".

One thing that helps me is buying my clothes in number sizes, rather than S, M, L, etc. Generally, tops in size 4 (US) fit me very well, but size smalls are way too short in the arms. When I'm shopping for coats, suit jackets, buttoned collar shirts, etc. I tend to not even look at them unless the sizes are numbered. Maybe that will help you too!

I've been really surprised by how companies choose to size things. For example, AT and ATL almost always size blouses and coats using numbers, but Banana Republic uses SML sizing for blouses and coats.

Jam, I am tall...6'. So my arms are proportional, but sometimes it can be frustrating. Thanks for the tip...I'll look into it!
