Ask Angie: Going to the AZ Super Bowl for the weekend

Hello Angie-
Please help! I am fortunate enough to be going on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Super Bowl next week in AZ. All I know about dressing for the weekend is that thursday night's team party is jeans and cowboy boots and is both inside and outside (I will wear fryes bc my feet are too fussy for pointy cowboy boots). The weather will range from 45-50 degrees in the am/eve to 78 degrees high during the day. Don't know whether I wear team gear, or dress up or what.

How does one dress for the Sunday tailgate (which will be warm) and game (which will be cool), and show team spirit and look good? Then we go straight to the team post-game party and I just haven't a clue how to dress for that sort of thing either. Its at our hotel, so i could change out of game attire, but if my team wins, I'm guessing I won't want to. And even for dinners out at night there, being that cool, but being AZ, I am at a loss. Where I live I am in full sweater and boot weather (Boston area) so I can't envision what I should be doing here.

Not Angie, obviously, but if I was you, I'd keep it comfy and casual for game day ... perhaps cuffed jeans (that you could then roll down as it cools) with some cute sneaks (Converse or similar), a t-shirt, and a cardi (again, for the cooler time), and my Pats hat. Perhaps a scarf in my bag for an extra layer as needed. The only style requirement imho is that it shows your team colors, and is comfy for eating nachos and drinking beer and cheering your lungs out!

Hi Dale, I live in Arizona, about 30 minutes from the stadium. Maybe I can help. the temperatures fluctuate wildly in the winter here. First, everything is super casual. Folks might dress up a little for the after party by adding some heels, a metallic sweater or fancy earrings to their attire, but you'll be fine anywhere in boots and jeans. You can generally get through the day here with a short sleeved top and another layer or two that you can take off or on depending on the temperature. Indoor temps are kept around 70-74F. The warmest thing you go to will probably be the afternoon tailgate party. It will be VERY a warm in the sun (don't forget sunscreen) even if the air is a bit cool. The biggest lesson I've learned living here is to make sure my fist layer is not some ratty tee, since I will invariably strip down to that at some point each afternoon!
It is drastically cooler in full shade, and when the sun goes down, but coming from New England it should feel balmy to you. A scarf is something nice to have, but you won't need a hat or gloves. Jeans, boots, a short sleeved shirt (or sleeveless) with sweater and a light jacket over that should be fine. Plenty of tourists wear shorts or cropped pants with sandals. If your feet get really hot, you might consider open shoes, but personally my feet would freeze at all but the hottest hour
of the day.

What a great opportunity! We went to the Super Bowl in New Orleans a couple of years ago (the game of the infamous power outage), and it was a total blast. I think NO is the ideal venue for it! Claire has you sorted for AZ weather advice, but I will just reiterate casual is the word of the day. I just geared myself up in a Ravens jersey, black underlayer, jeans, and black boots. Oh, and a most fabulous purple feather boa and mardi gras beads, just 'cause, you know, New Orleans!

Have a blast! I will bite my tongue about who I'm rooting for (but a local store here today has a sign saying "Patriots Sale! All Prices Deflated!").

Thanks so much for the guidance, esp. Claire. I'm always cold too, so the shoe thing was getting me, esp since I can't wear any winter heels (lots of cute platform sandals for summer). Good to know I'm still wearing spring/fall layers and boots will be ok.

Now, if the blizzard would just stop in time for my childcare to get here.

What do you all thinkof these, the Frye Sacha Moto Shortie? I have two pairs of cowboy boots (from my youth, pre-having kids and my feet growing) that I've been avoiding replacing. Thinking this is the perfect excuse??

You may get more response by posting the boots in a new thread for feedback, but I think they're great! Are they comfortable on you? We walked a LOT when we went to the Super Bowl, but it was New Orleans... If there is any possibility you'll be spending a lot of time on your feet, I'd pay close attention to comfort in your footwear.
