Ask Angie, et. al: What colour of Bootie??

We have narrowed the bootie choice down to either the eccos or the SE Petty's.

I was all set to buy black as my fall/winter wardrobe colours are/were dark grey and black.

However, as a result of ruminating on the thoughts expressed in this recent thread, where I am slowly coming to the realisation that I need, if not winter white bottoms, then maybe light grey ones.

But then, what bootie?

I ran into this problem with my summer wardrobe--having both black and white bottoms meant I had to buy both black and white sandals.

But I can't afford that. So, what then? Black? Taupe (if I can get it) or cognac? (Which is appropos of nothing but a lot of pinterest images flashing before my eyes....)

I know the Petty's come in Taupe--or grey--and I just tried phoning the Bay but no one is picking up.....

Egads, I just noticed the SE morillos come in wine red. I don't know. Seems like a lot of money for a fringe trend on my first pair of booties. Plus, I really think they are too refined for my needs at the moment.

I have the boots on hold at different stores until closing tonight, so I need to make my decision in about an hour or two.

A pair of black booties will probably get your furthest IF you are only getting a single pair. They will work with your black bottoms, and with your white bottoms for a high contrast look; they'll also work with navy, dark red, and gray.

The gray will be a softer look BUT less column of color with your black bottoms; they are still high contrast with white (though softer) and may look a bit muddy paired with dark red.

Cognac is an interesting option, but for you again if you're only getting one (and keeping in mind it's your first), I don't think cognac should be it; that said cognac pairs wonderfully with black, white, gray, and most colors too. It's a rich medium-contrast with everything I've seen you wear, except with white where it's a rich sort-of-high contrast pairing. I like cognac as a second bootie option for you, though.

In regards to pairing with white/cream bottoms, I personally like to wear cream booties with my white bottoms but that's probably not the best option for you with your winters. I also love wearing my light taupe knee high boots with my white jeans

I doubt I will be wearing these outside once it snows. Too cold. However, white footwear in winter with snow is a bit odd. Certainly odder than white/off-white/light cream bottoms.

Hm I've no good insight to how useful booties are in your type of snow so hopefully some of our deep winter climate gals can chime in to help you there. I wear mine in the rain and in light snow, but switch to tall boots when there's any decent amount of snow on the ground. My cream pair (and now I finally bought a second pair to spread the love) gets worn in rain and in light snow; if there's very heavy rain or moderate snow, then I switch to my taupe tall boots. I spray/douse all of my footwear in waterproofing stuff at the start of the season to help with all that.

I live in a yucky-winter area too, and I would second the black. I think black is the most versatile color of shoe. And I think black shoes look great with light-gray bottoms. However...now I'm thinking about the color of your hair. I wonder if maybe a lighter gray in shoes would be better for bookending? I hope one of the lighter-haired gals or Angie chimes in!

I vote cognac. It goes with black and white and is the most versatile color IMO. I think the SE Pettys come in cognac.

Hmm thinking on it, do you wear tall boots? I wonder if a black tall boot and cognac bootie might be a better setup.

There's also the thought about whether or not you like high contrast footwear. Even if you like high contrast clothing (like me!) you may not like it on your feet (like me!).

Black. It is one of your neutrals. It will give you the most mileage. If you were buying a second pair then branch out but not for the first pair. Black stands the test of time. Even I have black booties and I don't wear much black.

I vote for the black. Definitely spray whatever you get more than once in the snowy season. Salt stains are a nuisance when you live in cold, snowy climates, but black is easy to touch up if they get scuffed or stained.

For variety, if they get very salty, they may look grey, or even animal print!

Alana, in the past few years I restricted shoe purchases to black for financial and practical reasons. It worked for me, but you have to be at peace when sometimes you know another color would look better with an outfit. We're not striving for obsessive perfection here. I think black or cognac would be lovely and look forward to Angie's thoughts.

Ok, Ladies, I'm off to buy either the eccos or the Pettys. I will try them on one more time--with my NYDJ pants (white!) and see. If I actually had them, I just might wear them this evening as it is chilly.

How do you feel about the black footwear though? I am asking because until last year it was the last color I would reach for and feel fab in. It is totally weird as I have dark hair but this was my reality (and I think Inge was the same way).
My most used booties for 2 years in a row were SE Pettys in python print (greenish grey/cream). They just went with everything and made even a simple outfit that little special!
Actually with your hair color I would think that right grey or taupe maybe a better color for you to bookend your hair (unless you wear a lot of black bottoms or tops for bookending with black).

If you still want grey, and I mean a true grey, not a taupey grey, here 's one I've had my eye on. I have not bought a pair if Pettys because I want grey. To me, these are very similar to the Pettys.
