Looking at the side view, I don't think there is any way these could be any longer given how narrow the leg opening is. Skinnies and straight legs can't skim the ground with heels. Love them with boots!

That makes sense, Maya. I'm used to a bit more of a scrunch with my skinnies, so wasn't sure if these looked odd.

They look good to me. If you are wearing as a jeans alternative could you wear them with your cons? I also think they would look cute with a ballet flat or ankle boots.

With the first shoe, I was thinking they seemed a bit short, but then when I saw the red shoes, I really liked them-- and they look fab with the boots!
I think the look with the first shoes seemed a bit..... hmmmm.... off? matronly? I cant' pinpoint the word exactly. But I'd avoid wearing them with the black shoes.

queenie -- I know what you mean about those shoes. They're kind of clunky, and need to be styled a certain way to work. So not with those pants. I was trying to find a pair of black heeled shoes and that's all I had!

Kyle + Angie -- do you think a heeled ankle boot or shootie would work? Or heeled pumps? I'm happy to stick with flats and boots for tucking in, but curious about other options.

I was beginning to wonder if Angie and Kyle thought that ponte pants don't work with heels in general. But maybe you just mean those particular pair of shoes? If heels don't work at all, I'm curious to know why.

Same here, Patience. I would probably only wear ponte pants with 3" + heels.

Cathy- I hope you didnt think I was dissing your shoes. I didn't mean to imply that...They just didn't work with those pants. I can totally see them with bootcut jeans though-- the contrast of denim with the black would be cute.

Patience, Sarah and Cathy, I don’t know if the hems on these Ponte pants will work with heels. They don’t look long enough “to cascade over” a heeled shoe the way straight legs do, if you know what I mean. And they are not skinny enough to be cropped at the ankle. AND, there’s no scrunch. Need to see the look with heels to be sure. Hope that makes some sense!

Cathy, I like them best with flats. I'm not sure about the slouchy boots - I guess I am used to a very streamlined fit (like leggings) with the slouchy boots.

Angie, what do you think about all the "ankle" length pants that J Crew is showing? For example, they have a ponte knit pant (pixie pants) and another twill pant (Minnie) as well as the toothpick ankle jeans & cords. They seem to showcase them with heels (and flats).

queenie -- not at all, no worries! Those shoes are really old, and are actually Ariat shoes meant for clomping around the barn (or something). The pants definitely don't work with a clunky shoe.

I'll try to rustle up some photos with heels, although the heels I do have probably won't work with them. I wonder if they only look good with heels that are over 3", like Sarah mentioned.

Shana -- I'm not sure about the slouch boots either. I guess if I were to wear slouchy boots, I'd generally be wearing black leggings. So I'll definitely wear these with flats, and maybe some kind of bootie if I could find a pair that works.

Great, thanks for the info Angie. I broke down and bought the A|X black check skinny pants that were discussed on here awhile back and they fit me like the BR pants you linked to (with heels). I'll keep my eye out for some pontes in that cut - otherwise I can make do with the check pants.
