Yesterday I tried (and bought on the spot) the Rockport sling backs featured here, because despite my growing bunion which is now banning me from my favorite heeled pumps, these were fine. I mean, truly fine, when I walk and everything, no compression, no bone clicking, no shooting pain. I think it's the fact that they are sling-backs, so the toe box is less compressed during movement. I was never a huge fan of having my heel exposed, and used to stay away from a potentially skin-digging/rubbing strap at the back of the foot, but these, being of better quality, might not be so bad and I am completely ready to deal with those inconveniences. Also, they are kitten heels, so the angle is less stressful on the joint.
I had not seen myself in any kind of refined pumps in ages. Last year I tried to wear a closed toe version of this (but higher heel)... they turned out to be 2h shoes tops - not even. What a disappointment.
I've asked my physician many times what could I do about it and he says the only surgical treatment consists of fusing my toe to my foot, which essentially eradicates most movements! And I'm a dancer and a very active teacher, always on my feet.
