Anyone still wearing Bennetton?

It's still around, because I see the stores, but I haven't heard much about them since college.

There was actually a store in my neighborhood that just closed a few months ago. Honestly, I'd go in a couple times a year,maybe once or twice a year,I'd try something on, but I think it was a decade or so since I bought anything. I was always surprised that the store survived as long as it did. I assumed someone was using it as some kind of tax write off or something, cause there was no way it was making money.

I have a chunky grey wool vest that I bought at a DC Bennetton last year, while visiting my daughter at college. I had not been in one of those stores in ages and was surprised to find something! Remember when the racial/ethnic diversity in their advertising was so groundbreaking?

I had a few sweaters (and maybe gloves or a scarf?) from there a few years ago. I also remember someone who was really petite and slender telling me she bought suits there because they were one of the few places with cuts small enough for her.

I'm kind of surprised they still exist too.

Wow, you see the stores ? They had completely shut down in the US. It would be nice to see them make a come back. Every once in a while when I pick up a European magazine, I see awesome Bennetton stuff.

I used to shop at the ones in Boston within the last 10 years or so and my husband was a fan of their suits. One of the Boston locations closed and I am not sure if the one on Newbury Street is still there anymore. One of the salespeople there told me that they operate in a way that is something like franchises, and that the person who owned those particular stores was not doing well. Probably the company's lateness in having an online store hasn't done them any good either.

In Italy they are as ubiquitous as the Gap in the US, but I haven't shopped there much since production left Italy (8-10 years ago??) and I started seeing more and more (unpleasant) manmade fibers. I have to say, I always slightly preferred the aesthetic of Benetton's big sister, Sisley, though, and I do have a handful of more recent items from them.

They seemed to be thriving in London when I was there in December 2011. Cute stuff! Lots of wool, because it was December. I bought a twinset: a cheery little bright red cardigan with little pearl buttons and a matching stretch tank - but I wound up listing them on eBay later because my skin has gotten crazy sensitive to wool.

I occasionally come across really cute vintage Benetton. I recently found a really sharp-looking black wool Benetton coat at a thrift store, got it home, tidied it up, and listed it on eBay. This was made in Italy, and has a really fun diagonal textured stripe. As I was photographing it, a greedy little voice inside my head kept purring what a great coat it would be for moi. But I resolutely (for now) ignored that little voice, because I have plenty of pretty winter gear.

But that is not to say I won't cave when the temperatures drop, and de-list and keep.

I actually have a wool winter peacoat I bought in Boston in the early 2000s that I do still wear. I've only ever owned a handful in my lifetime, but that coat has held up amazingly well. (Ummlila, I do think Newbury St shut down mid-00s. Probably bc they were selling $50 peacoats. )

I have a Bennetton wool sweater that is 25 years old and I still wear it every winter. It is one of my greatest sweaters ever!!!!!

I still see them in almost every European city I have been to in recent years, but I have no idea what they sell of how the quality changed if it had. The sizing was always way too small for me, so they were never my shopping destination. But, I'll go into my local one next time I'm in the city centre and check what's on offer, now I'm really curious.

The stores are everywhere in Europe especially Italy. I went to several stores on my travel in Europe recently. My friend bought some dress for her daughter, the quality is similar to the Gap. You can order on line in the US. They seem to be quite popular in Europe.

I still have a skirt I bought at the DC one at a YLF meetup a couple of years ago. The Boston one closed a while before that and dc is the only place I've seen one recently (it was in Georgetown but I have no idea if it's still there).

I have been missing Benetton but I thought all the U.S. stores closed down. You have stores there? They had great wools.

I checked and there are a few stores in the US -- mostly NY but also 2 in CA and one in the Dallas area. When I lived in NYC in the 80s it seems they were all over the place. I wonder what happened?

The Georgetown one is still around! Or at least it was last I noticed.

The other local one I know of closed a year or two ago, I think.

Yeah, I wondered if that Georgetown one was still there. I haven't seen a Bennetton store other than that in years. I liked their sweaters years ago (in the 90s when the advertising was groundbreaking) but could not justify the price point at that time in my life. It seems that when I looked in more recent years, I just wasn't as impressed with the style or the quality of the knitwear.
