Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Any skinny calf, flat boots at NAS? or in Europe in August?

Finding a pair of flat boots is literally the key to my entire fall/winter wardrobe. No luck last year so I am redoubling my efforts this time. I need boots that are under 13" in circumference. I tried a pair of aquatalia boots last winter that were 13" and they were too big. I am interested in the Camper helix but they might be a little too tall for me. If anyone has seen any potentials at NAS, please let me know!

Another thought - Angie and/or Europeans on the board - will stores in Europe (Germany) have boots out in late August/early September? I actually found much narrower widths last winter there but since I was on total shopping ban, I couldn't buy any.

Shana,

I deal with this too, my calf is 10 1/2 inches and have yet to find a narrow enough fit.
However, I did attempt to try on the Cole Haan *narrow* boot that my sales person brought out for me. Problem is my calf is narrow, my feet are not, so they didn't work. But if you have a narrow foot as well these just *might* work:)

ugh, no, my feet have recently become very fussy. Like you, I need something narrow in the calf and normal/roomy in the foot. My added complication is that I am petite so I can't have anything too tall either (I think I need a shaft height of about 13-14" - haven't measured so I am not quite sure).

My suggestion is to look in Europe, FOR SURE, Shana. I did not see anything quite narrow enough at the NAS, but I will take another look on Friday.

Your other alternative is to get slouchy boots that are fine to look wide at the calf. But the look is not as streamlined. Try duoboots too. You too, Taylor!

Taylor, that is really, really narrow. I have looked everywhere for boots to fit 12" calves and had little success, so you may have to have your boots taken in (e-mail me privately for word on my positive experience with doing this.)

FYI -- the smallest calf circumference offered by Duo is 30 cm, which is 11.8 inches. Shana, I bet you could find something there.

Taylor, altering boots cost me $80, so figure a conservative estimate of $100, plus the cost of the boots. If you found a great sale on regular-calf boots, I think it would be worth it. Since Duo's smallest size is about an inch bigger than you need, I'm not sure there are (m)any pret-a-porter boots out there that will fit you. :(

Shana, keep an eye out on the Nordstrom website for new Eric Michaels boots. Those seem to run narrow in the calf - those are the slouchy boots that worked so well for me (and Maya?) last year.

Shana, to answer your question from the other thread, I have not really found flat boots that fit my calf and are a good height. My riding boots are for over jeans only and I bought a pair of gray slouchy boots which aren't snug but work because they're slouchy. I have one pair of fitted flat boots, but they are probably too tall and I just wear them anyway. I do think a cobbler can shorten boots in addition to making the calf narrower.

Most Summer sales are finished here by the end of July Shana, so I'm pretty sure you'll be seeing loads of boots in the European shops by the time you get here. Hopefully you'll find your dream pair!

Shana I don't know how tall you are, but I'm 5"8 and if anything the Camper Helix's are a bit short on me, so maybe they would work for you?

I wonder if they would be too wide for you though, as my calves are def. a lot bigger than 10 inches!!!

I agree.. on the final of August there will be in the stores the fall shoe collection, I think you will find boots.

Fall collection are already arriving to the stores!

Shana - can I hijack your thread slightly? I would love some advice from the boot experts on what calf circumference to look for. I just measured my calf and it's 12.5 inches at the widest part. I want boots for tucking skinny jeans into and for wearing with tights and skirts/dresses - what shaft circumference should I look for?
