Another try...pants and boots??

Same pants, different boots. These are the tall boots I have that I can walk in...they are the same Merrill style, just tall. But I bought them before I found out that boots are supposed to snug your calves! Didn't know that!! Hard to do on my 12.5 inch calves.

The consensus on the other thread was that my short boots wouldn't work to tuck pants into. I'm wondering if this look is any better? Given that the pants aren't super skinny and the boots have a big gap...maybe not! Just thought I'd try.

I could still consider tapering the pants if it would be worth it. Yes or no?

I'm also wondering about having the boots fixed? I've read about women here doing it, and there is an excellent leather repair place in town. Given how impossible it is for me to find shoes that work, it might well be worth it. Anyone know about this?

Comfortable shoes and boots are tough, for sure!
These do look pretty big on your calves.
I've not even been able to muster the energy to go try on all the boots I expect I'd have to try to even get close, on fit and comfort.
You can wear these, but not sure it gives you the sleek boot look you'd like.
Not steering you to buy more boots, but there were some posts on how the mid-leg style boot may serve as a hybrid--it more intentionally doesn't have to hug your calves and you can tuck into it better than the ankle boots.
It's something I might consider because my pants will never be skinny enough to look sleek tucked in.

I much prefer boots that hug my calves but I had no idea that was an option until YLF. All my old boots fit like these do on you. We have the same calf circumference so let me know if you need tips - lace up boots are a start.

That said, I think these look fine and you are the only person who will notice, thanks to being here on the forum! I sometimes add thick socks to take up that extra space and bulk up my lower leg.

You know, this look isn't bad...If I saw you I would probably see the lovely fuchsia sweater and your nice smile, I would probably be able to say you wore boors but I wouldn't judge them as not hugging your calves...See what others say but I would consider wearing these as is ...if they are comfortable...

To me, this looks really good from the front. From the side, the gap does look pretty noticeable, but I wonder if it would be less so in person, when no one will be looking at the side view of your leg for that long. Thick socks could help too, like Una suggests.

I think this definitely works better than with the booties. I don't think you need to taper the pants unless they are not comfortable this way. And I would try the sock trick first, and then maybe go for a consult with the cobbler. If you could adjust the fit without too much cost, it sounds like a plan! Foortwear is really foundational for you, and this would give you so many more options for winter outfits.

I haven't tried this, but I've seen plenty of folks use knee high socks and/or legwarmers to fill in the gap.

These are good points about "boots in motion," which are more forgiving than the still shots. I am finding that to be true of many "roomy" fit items, be they pants or tops or boots. And plenty of people in my town do not achieve "calf-hugging" probably for many of the same reasons--lining up foot fit and pants allowance and color and style and price AND calf width is just mind-boggling.
Hence, I have no tall boots......

Yay! I think you all have good points...and maybe no one will notice anyway.

I do have my leg pushed forward to show better in the picture. When I'm standing normally there is about an inch all the way around so it is not as bad as it looks in pic #2.

When I first wore the boots it was with a dress and tights. I think it was very obvious that way and once I learned how they were supposed to fit I didn't wear them again. Maybe now I can get some use out of them on special occasions.

I think in real life the boot gap would not be noticed and you should wear these whenever you want.

Yay--a boots and pants outfit that works! I agree--they will look fine as they are, when you're not deliberately showing the gap. One inch all around is not going to be noticed by anyone who's not staring at photos of you.
I wouldn't change the pants; they look good as is.
