About your wardrobe and personal style

Another request for help picking out specs!

I went to try on glasses today and had a very limited selection (my DH is an optometrist but the vision center doesn't have a great selection of frames...something I hope to change if he ever gets into his own office :) ). Anyway, here are the pics from my trip. If none of these is killer I will go elsewhere (but it's hard to beat a free pair of glasses so I thought I'd start here first).

Here's the album:

I'll reserve my opinions for now :) Thanks for any advice!

Wow you look good in glasses, alot of them are very pretty. I like how the first red pair brings out the highlights in your hair. Do you have red highlights in your hair? My computer screen may not be accurate. I like the first pair and I thought #7 had a good shape.

I feel like a lot of these frames are too big around your eyes. In terms of fit, I think the best ones are the Nine West and the reddish-brown frames because they are closer to your eye. Can you get them to tell you your PD (pupilary distance)? A few of the glasses seem to have too wide of a PD for you, which is causing your eyes to look close set. Getting that information will help rule out a lot of options.

I know nothing about glasses which is why I usually don't comment on glasses threads. Just based on looks, I like #7 the best followed by #8. I really like the red color on you but those glasses seem a little big on your face.

I agree with the others that they all seemed a bit wide for your face. That said, my favorites were 1, 2, and 5. I think that the more squared-off corners on those frames look good on you.

Dani, I like the first pair the best. I also love your necklace and top. Very pretty.

Don’t shoot me, but none of them are killer. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t keep on looking at what’s in hubby’s showroom! Perhaps it’s a question of looking in another style direction? Here’s my 2 cents:

o All the specs have “cheek bone droop”. Your specs MUST LIFT. They must go up at the bottom corners and at the sides for your face shape.

o The top line of the specs must follow your brow line, and these don’t do a good job of that.

o Your eyes are quite close together like mine. Your eye needs to be centered within the lens – yours are off centre.

o The frames are too vertically wide for your face.

o No brown. It’s all too brown if your specs are brown too. Try purple, green, blue or burgundy.

I hope that makes sense.

Sarah's and San's new specs meet the above criteria PERFECTLY. I hope that will help as a visual aid: (San's is on one of the NAS's threads).

Angie, have you considered putting this content in a blog post? Your glasses-shape selection advice is *so* much more specific and easier for me to understand than the vague face-shape guidelines I've come across so far. There have been so many glasses selections questions on the forum lately.

I sure wish I knew about these strategies years ago when trying on glasses was so hit and miss - I could figure out what I liked best on my face, but I had no idea why until I gradually figured out what kind of shape to look for.

(What is it with all of us buying new glasses at once? I ended up selecting an additional pair this week, too - I only have vision insurance through the end of this month & figured I should use it while I can!)

Thanks for the input ladies. I'm just not that enthralled with any of the options, so Angie, saying none are killer is not a problem. I'm not sure what you mean by saying they have "cheek bone droop." I do feel that most of the frames are too wide. I'll go back next week and have another go (when I can go kid free).

I looked at San's and Sarah's frames and can kind of see what those have that mine don't, but I'm not 100% positive.

Maya, I didn't even know I could have my eyes measured that way...thanks for the pointer!

Wow, tons of useful information here! I am taking notes since I am planning on getting a new pair in a couple of months. Seeing all the pics lately is very helpful, too.
Angie, I second Kari's suggestion of a blog post.
Dani, sorry I am no help!
