Another K/R... houndstooth pants

I came across these pants at ON, as I was leaving the store after buying a bunch of things for the girls. So I grabbed a couple of sizes, to try on at home.

As you (may) know, I have the BR Sloan windowpane pants, which I love. They have a couple of limitations though... they are cream, so I've never been able to wear them with white tops, and the leg is loose enough that they don't tuck into boots well.

So, these pants are white (or close enough) and have a snugger leg. they are also insanely comfortable. And cheap. So what do you think? Would I be silly to duplicate what is effectively the same look, to open up my options? Do they look okay? Am I too old for houndstooth pants? I will not be getting rid of the Sloans, as they are better with pumps, and well, I like them :). Here are a couple of possible looks. i would also love to wear these with my new Zara tunic top, not shown.

Love them with tunic in 1. #2 is more classic due to the fit of the sweater, do you have other footwear to go with the white sweater? Like sneakers I'm thinking.

So they look great on you I think. Whether you should keep them, well that's tough. Since I am now a practitioner of 1 in, 1 out, I would be asking, what can go out in its place. If nothing, then you need to reconsider.

Well, I guess I owe a triple thank you to Denise :).

I'm not at a one in one out place yet... Still experimenting and narrowing down and trying to figure myself out. So that side of things doesn't worry me. These are not expensive, and could be fun for a year. Some statement pants for my essential sweaters.
And I have my hi ness cons, plus my black patent sneakers. I wouldn't have thought of those... Will definitely keep that idea in mind! They are ankle pants, so will have to see if the length works that way. I really want something for boots... Maybe the white sweater wasn't the best.

I like these a lot! So much so that I'm thinking of running over to ON right away
I like both toppers with these, but with #2 I would wear lighter shoes or booties - a tan color.

I like these. With preference for the black sweater, but the white is going to go well with the hi ness Cons.

They look quite different than the cream Sloan windowpanes which function as an overall light pant, while these will be more of a mid-to-dark visual effect. I like 'em! I also think you can totally pair the creamy Sloans with white tops. Just sayin

This is THE year a girl can't have too many plaid pants! If they're a small indulgence why not keep them? It's not like you're splitting wears if they service an entirely different shoe & top population.

I think if I were to wear a white top with these, and the boots, I'd add a scarf or something with black in it to balance it out.

Aida, I've tried to wear white with the Sloans, but they are just sooo creamy. I don't have aproblem with mixing whites, I just do with those, for some reason. But you and thumbelina are quite right, they are for a different function. I guess I was thinking it might be a bit much for the rest of the world to see me in this type of thing too often :).

These are so comfy I'm actually considering a black pair... they are kind of like leggings I could wear to work!

I vote keep! I love that the can read edgy or classic depending on what you pair them with.

I love them! But I'm biased -- I tried on a great-looking pair of Rag & Bone houndstooth black and white jeans the other night (a smaller check than this one), and sadly, they were too big in the waist and butt and still snug in the thighs -- the story of my life.

I think they look great in both versions, but I especially like them with black. Oh, I bet the AT black vest thing would be great with them, whenever it arrives...

Janet, you should try these... Given our track record for pants! Has that vest not shown up at your end yet? Weird, lots of others on here seem to have had orders arrive quite quickly.

I have a love/hate relationship with houndstooth. I used to wear quite a bit if it when I was younger but I worry so much that now in my 40's I won't be able to make it look cool lol. I love what you go have done in #1. This is interesting and edgy. If you don't mind me saying, #2 is not where I think you want to go with the pants, to my eye it's just not modern enough

Being a pants girl ... You know I think houndstooth and windowpane are obviously different :D. In fact I have both .. Albeit one in tan :). And my tan houndstooth print pants fit similar to your. Might be more snug. I agree that it would tuck well into boots

And I agree with everything that Denise said :).

You had me at houndstooth! I think they look great on you but I really prefer them with the black top. As you said, they are comfy and inexpensive so why not add them, at least for this year. Leggings for work? Yes please!

I was looking at these pants online but didn't pull the trigger because I couldn't try on (closest store is an hr away) and ON's sizing seems to be all over the place.

But they are really great on you! I'd keep especially since they are inexpensive. Question about sizing in case I order...did you size up or down or is it your normal sizing?

I have a serious sugar eye for houndstooth anything. I think they are fabulous and like them best with the black sweater. If you have any boots in a lighter color, give them a try and see how they work as an alternative. I would also wear them with the deeper brighter colors like cobalt which I am pretty sure look great with your coloring.

I am tempted to zip out to ON and get a pair myself.

I think black and jewel tones may look best with the crisp pattern. And definitely the more fluid tops if you have them, for the skinny pant. Or maybe a BF cardigan or vest. All that would look good and yet fresh and edgy with the bold pattern.
I sometimes try to think, is this a statement pattern in a style I wear anyway-- then it's easy to try out because i already have or will be adding the items that tend to work with it( proportions, colors, footwear). Or, is it a new direction completely and then ill want to figure how much will I have to do to get the right look. .

Dianthus and Mala, I must have crossed posted with you, then I went out for Saturday running around like a chicken errands.

Mala, I got my normal size. I also ordered a size up, but I think I will stick with the normal because they are quite stretchy, and who knows what they'll do with some wear. Plus my weight is up a bit right now and I refuse to buy larger because of that! They fit very similarly to the BR Sloans.

Dianthus, they come in cobalt and black houndstooth as well :). Just sayin'.

Wise words unfrumpled. This would qualify as a statement in a style I wear anyway. Slim bottoms are a good silhouette for me, and something I would like to expand on. Slightly.

I am late here, but wanted to chime in and add another vote to the keep camp! I really like the first outfit.

Also, I am in almost the identical as situation, as I have both the BR cream windowpane Sloans and a similar pair of black/white checkered pants like your ON ones. Mine are micro-checked, not houndstooth, but the effect is pretty much the same. They used to be bootcut so I had them tapered, but the seamstress messed it up and now I can only wear them tucked into boots, like in your photo.
