Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Another dress

I went to the Rack to return the MS dress and decided to try another one (same price). Yes, it's black, but Angie suggested that it's not necessarily a bad way to go. I like the neckline and the fact that it's not empire style, but there is some ruching on the sleeves, and I usually avoid any shoulder enhancement. What do you think? Keep or return? I am including the back shot for the shoulder issue.

Also, would it work with the docs even though everything is black? (I would add tights)

Thank you!

Well of course I like it, I just picked up the same dress at TJMaxx last week. :)

That's funny, Sarah! You are biased, then :) Do you have a picture?

I love the shoulder ruching though not sure i'm qualified to comment on whether it suits you. I think the dress looks great how about adding a belt for a splash of colour if you are wearing all black? x

Sarah, you look lovely. That's a great outfit. Hmm now I wonder even more about the sleeves.
Thanks Louise! (fixed the last link btw)

Marianne, you look great in the dress with the boots. I think you will get alot of use out of it. I love how Sarah is wearing it too and shows another way to style it. I hope you keep the dress.

I really like it and don't think it's unflattering at all. It looks great with the Docs!

Marianne, I personally love the dress on you. The sleeves are flattering in my opinion because they are elbow length. I love the dress with boots, and I plan on wearing it that way as well, or over jeans. Sweater dresses are hard for me to find, so when I find a good one it's a no brainer for me. A few ideas for color... Try adding dark blue jeans and a statement pearl piece, per Angie's "black and ink blue" blog post recently. I plan on trying to soften my blacks with ink blues this fall, and of course adding a cream accessory.
Try purples, greys, or french blues also. Black is so versatile and you can wear almost every color or texture with it. For a vintage look, try a long strand of pearls doubled up, or a vintage necklace.

I really like this dress on you too. Looks like it has lots of styling options too--Sarah has some great ideas. Love the look with the button down and the Docs!

Thanks everyone!
Sarah, thank you in particular for the styling ideas. I do like that it can be worn with jeans, and it is very comfy :)

LOVE! The 3rd outfit has me swooning :-)

I love the dress you on you Marianne! Amazing! a bright bag/necklace/svarf would work well with the all black combo.

I have tried on the same one in dove grey and for some reason did not get it. Now i want to go back and find it :)

Thank you! I am keeping it :)
Tanya, I tried it in grey a couple of weeks ago, but the color seemed off. The lighting in our Rack always makes me look sick, so the colors are really hard for me to figure out. When I went back, I didn't see any grey ones left.

Marianne, lovely dress and it looks versatile for fall/winter I like the idea of a neck scarf which you do so well. Looks fab on Sarah too!

I love the outfit with the white shirt underneath, you look great with contrast and your legs go on for miles. Slouch boots are very flattering for your figure!!
