The parent company of Ann Taylor and Loft is going to be bought by the company that now owns Dressbarn and Lane Bryant: http://mobile.nytimes.com/invi.....&_r=0
I think they have been on the market or looking for a buyer for a while. This company has its headquarters in my state, which could be good for employment here
My AT closed recently...I wonder if that was related to the sale. I've not been a fan of for quite a while now. I think the quality used to be so much better. This spring I bought several pieces at LOFT so I hope they stick around....plus it's about a mile from my house so super convenient too!
This is news! I will be at the mall on Friday and will make it a point to walk by both stores to check status.
I used to love Ann Taylor, but bought very little over the course of these past two years because I got tired of all the sales gimmicks. In time I didn't even bother to stop by the store. I doubt I will miss it.
I'm not a business analyst, but it makes sense in our economy and the demand for "fast fashion," that LOFT stores would be doing better than Ann Taylor. Ann Taylor styles are virtually replicated by what's available at Banana Republic, who has a bigger footprint. With the other end of the price spectrum, consumers appreciate a store that is more consistent and curated than the Rack, yet more budget conscious than AT.
It will be interesting to watch what happens under new ownership.
My niece, who worked for Ann Inc. in the Loft Outlet division, starts a new position with Nike next Tuesday. She moved yesterday from NYC to Portland, Ore. Sounds like she made a good decision. She had been looking to find a similar job in supply chain management for about a year.
