Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

ankle length anything

I am starting the dreaded closet clean out for season change and I have quite a few bias cut and tulip ankle length skirts that I have always thought were flattering shapes for me. I like the romantic, graceful thing that goes on. I am a slim rectangle, hourglass top and slight inverted triangle. I know pictures will help and I will be posting soon with coat decisions but are ankle lengths outdated? I know Angie says no to petites but I am 5' 6". Any thoughts?

Sorry (sad face). Just can't condone ankle length skirts, or maxi dresses. It's not a flattering look, and an utter waste on your rocking hot bod! Please say goodbye to these items.

Thanks Angie, It will be tough but more room in my closet!

Greenglove, you could also try shortening them if the style lends itself to it. I just commented on Friday's blog about wardrobe orphans by saying that I had an orphan dress (ankle length) shortened to knee length and look forward to wearing it again. My tailor only charged me $5 for this alteration (it was an uncomplicated hem, and no other changes needed.)

Ankle length lends itself to frumpiness - shorten the skirts to knee length if they're in great condition and otherwise look current, Otherwise let them go.

Thanks everyone, I assume that this also applies to ankle length coats? I am going to bring a few favorites to the tailor to see if they are worth the money, tailors around here charge more than 5.00 unfortunately.
