Ankle boots in summer - Faux Pas?

I know I have asked this before. But I just need some reassurance! I really love my ankle boots and if I can wear my hi top sneaks then ankle boots should be fine for me comfort wise (indoor arctic AC and all)

But I hope I wouldn't look seasonally confused (and weird!) in summery clothes with ankle boots? Is it a faux pax? If it helps, the attached are what I am talking about. I would reserve my stompy boots for winter.

I'll watch for replies because I have a a similar issue-- have trousers that look best with short boots but want to summerize. See post on nude footwear. I've been looking instead for the right sort of cutout bootie or a type of metallic or maybe 2- tone. Also for me, an ankle boot is the best way to get a wearable 1.5-2" heel, again something that works well for certain pants.

Personally, I wouldn't wear black leather ankle boots with summer clothes, unless its with a dress maybe, in the evening or something... I do think it would look "seasonally confused" as you say.

Otherwise, maybe go for some sandal boots that are getting popular right now, or even ankle boots with an open toe...

Personally I can't stand to wear anything but sandals in summer... yes I freeze in the office, but then I go outside and thaw!!! LOL

I am not planning on buying new shoes for summer (except glads) I was wondering if I could maximize the use of my boots. Especially since they are so comfy.

I absolutely wear my lighter-coloured booties and ankle boots in Spring and Summer too when it's chillier. And I also don't mind a darker bootie, especially when it's worn with lighter-coloured bottoms (white or light wash jeans, for example). That does not feel seasonally confused to me.

Neel - I am a boot girl. YLF helped me clarify that I really don't like "shoe" per se but I adore boots - booties, shooties, etc. I don't wear sandals since my feet get cold and I am a total klutz and breat my toes. So that was a long winded way of saying I only wear boots, no matter what the weather. I was wearing black suede booties yesterday. I do wear my cut of JC everly, my JC slashed alexia both the booties and peeptoe booties alot. But my ariat heritage lacers are always in rotation. I think of it as trademark for me, rather than seasonal confusion!! Don't know if that helps but that's what I do!!

I think if it feels right in terms of the temperature and light, it looks right. Those are great looking booties!

Like gryffin, I have come very recently to the realization that I am a boot girl too! I wear ankle boots in summer and winter, so I wouldn't think of it as a faux pas.

I think if it were black, formal ankle booties, it might look a little seasonally confused (like in your pic), but it really depends on the look. I know Sally over at Already Pretty says that her "inner cowgirl" comes out every summer, and she sports lots of summer looks with booties and boots.

The only light colored booties I own are the center ones in glittery pewter. And it seems many agree lighter boots are OK for sumer. I could also probably get away with the chelsea short boots in black since it's a lot less black than the other pair?

Shannon - They are very comfy and their heel height is perfect for walking. One of the very few shoes I own with walkable heels!

I'm another year-round boot wearer! I don't see it as a faux pas, but it's more accepted in some geographic areas (e.g., SoCal, SF, NYC) than others.

I think these would totally work in the summer. I like the look of ankle boots, bare legs, and a dress. Which is so totally not practical any other time of year!

I also wear boots year 'round. In warmer weather, I need to accompany said boots with exposed skin to feel seasonally right though. So like, with shorts and a sleeveless top. Or a skirt and lightweight jacket. Things like that. I MIGHT wear them in a fully covered outfit if it were full of sheer gauzy layers, but if the fabric is any thicker I'd skip in favor of more conventionally summery looking shoes. That's just me though, my "heat" is nowhere near as high as yours is!

I think it is totally acceptable....
I tend to wear my ankle boots a lot in winter and not much in summer but this is because my feet get so hot....
I love the looks Inge has posted with white jeans and black boots- I don't own white jeans but think I may have to reconsider this. For me this would be a spring or autumn look as it would be too hot to wear boots and jeans in summer, but those trans-seasonal looks are awesome in our climate.

Yes, totally acceptable! I would wear boots year round if I didn't think I'd die of heat. You know I adore the look of boots/booties on bare legs. I think if you show some leg even black boots are seasonally appropriate.

Personally, if it is a milder summer day, I would wear booties, even black ones. I just wore my leopard print booties last week, with my white jeans.

First let me say that I am seriously coveting your boogie collection! Love them all! I used to be a sandal wearer as soon as it was warm enough and a boot wearer when the weather cooled off. Closed shoes don't fit properly so I try to just skip them where possible. I tend to run hot in the summer so usually I just stick to sandals, BUT, I bought a pair of metallic soft leather booties on sale and just had to wear them, hot weather or not. And I loved the look (I wore them with white jeans). So I think that definitely you can wear the lighter ones and if the darker ones aren't too hot, then I think with the lighter summer clothing they would be great but I do agree with the others that you should definitely show some ankle skin to keep it seasonally appropriate.

Far tooooooo hot here for booties in summer!
I would be guided by the look you want to create (giggle, giggle) and the climate. If you can wear those in summer then power to you!

Ha ha! Worn with cotton socks they are very comfortable. I don't like open toed slippers at all. India being a dusty place, it tends to dirty my feet & I just *hate* the feeling of dirt on my feet. I prefer closed shoes as far as possible. Besides with a corporate job I hardly spend time in the hot weather outside. Even during peak of summers, the temperatures in my office hover around 18 degrees and it is very comfortable to wear ankle boots.
