Animal prints - anyone else not in love anymore?

I suppose I should say I was never really 'in love' with animal prints but recently I'm finding myself over them. I sold a wrap dress I'd had for a good 6 years and so now only have 2 tops with subtle leopard prints. And that is more than enough for me.
I know some of you cooled your love affairs with ruffles after several years overload of them. I'm hot as ever for a well placed ruffle. But with animal prints the buck (or zebra, or cheetah) stops here! I am starting to see what the man repeller eyes do on this one, hate to say it [ducking].

EDIT: I should point out that I don't mean no one should be wearing this by any means! Just that I personally have hit overload with it.

No, I'm still a push-over!

I do see subtle changes offered each year, so I can keep evolving and feeling a bit more current. . .but I have WAY too many.

I tend to gravitate towards cat prints - not so much the other critters that have had their day these past few years. . .

I hope I can still bring myself to wear parts of my zoo even when they fall way back from the trendy scene.

I'm love with black and white animal prints at the moment - like zebra and leopard.
Oh, and I love a subtle croc texture in shoes and bags.

Maybe it was the lady I saw at the hockey game last week that just put the death knell in it for me with her complete overkill with every single garment.
Maybe after another week or two of shaking that off a zebra flat will look darling to me again ha ha.

loved it in my 20s. never got into it during its most recent incarnation. the older i got, the more it struck me as something old ladies wear to seem relevant...clearly this is only MY opinion.

i, too, still love my front bib ruffle dress from a few seasons ago and can't wait to wear when sleeveless weather returns.

BJ1111, that is what I mean by what the man repeller eyes see. By and large men see it as an old lady thing. I guess in small doses it can be a cute accent. And, again, you're right, these are only our own personal opinions and biases.

Like you, I was never "in love" with them. I've been mildly interested in snake print and other, less-popular prints... zebra, feathers, black-on-black leopard. I ended up getting a pretty abstractly-leopard, forest green thermal shirt and my 80%20 booties in "Cream kiwi" - I guess they are tecnhically Dalmation print, but even the company's promo says they are "reminiscent of a romantic snowfall." So I guess I do still like the idea in theory, but I do gravitate to the prints that are less saturated in the market.

I was never that much into animal print in the first place, just like you. I only have one grey leopard print scarf and I still like wearing that one, but I don't plan to buy further animal print.

As an accessory or pair of shoes, my love for animal print will also never fade. It's a classic with longevity. I LOVE snakeskin above all other animal prints, and I don't see that changing.

LOL at MaryK. I still love my leopard print scarf. But on a trip to town today, I saw about six women wearing them, and I began to wonder if we all looked like we were copying each other (I wasn't wearing mine today, I was wearing my new Boden Scarf of Gorgeousness!).

I still think a little animal print in a outfit is very classic.

I like the ones I have, will still consider tasteful ones I like, but have also been oversaturated by seeing them on everyone from toddlers to grannies. I think once it dies down a bit I can safely pull them back out. In the meantime I use in moderation like a belt, scarf OR shoe and my beloved leopard jacket. I had hoped the giraffe would make a comeback (my colors), but sadly the cats wond out and the zebra even outpaced it. Still not a big fan of snakeskin prints.

Animal prints are my sartorial crack cocaine. I would dress head to toe in them if I could, LOL!

Since my husband doesn't care what I wear, I don't have to worry about impressing him with my outfits. The only thing he's made a negative comment about is my short haircut. He hates it! I like it, but his feelings about it have dampened my enthusiasm. So, I totally understand not being gung-ho to wear something your partner dislikes.

I just recently discovered animal prints. Found a really cute dark brown leopard ruffle scarf and a satchel style handbag (Steve Madden) in a rich brown crocodile print. I am loving both along with the white ceramic peugeot crystal watch I bought! I am a little leary of the animal print shoe (except for a croco pattern).

Oh see, now I was finally getting inspired to actually dare an animal print! DOn't worry, you have not dampened my enthusiasm but the reason I have waited so long is the feeling that it belongs to the elder generation....but ha ha, I am the elder generation now so I figure I am due!

I have:

One leopard dressy blouse.
One abstract leopard-ish T-shirt.
One skinny leopard belt.
One pair of leopard ballet flats.
One pair of high heel leopard wedges.
Three scarfs that have animal print.
One snakeskin embossed higher-end handbag.

I love them, but don't plan on adding anything else to the closet menagerie.

Are you counting feather prints?

I love seeing the variations that come out every new- new textures, colors and patterns make it always feel fresh to me- like the leopard print dress that I just bought from Gap

I never did gravitate towards any animal-printed garment, though I love certain accessories. I just recently bought a genuine crocodile handbag and a genuine snakeskin evening clutch. Back when I was in my 20s (many moons ago), I had a pair of high-heeled snakeskin pumps and matching belt that I wore a lot. I guess for me, animal prints need to be in small quantities, not overdone.

I should add: I love animal *textures* - like snake and croc - with undying devotion. Snake, croc, ostrich, stingray, and elephant-embossed leather will never get old to me. I feel that's different than a print, though. And of course, I don't feel any need to have genuine elephant skin or anything endangered.

I've never been a big fan for myself; it just doesn't seem to fit my personality. I do have a pair of zebra-ish print ballet flats that I have worn to death and would love to be able to replace, but so far no luck. I think it's the feature of the white-ish (really more ecru) and black print that works to liven up my wardrobe; a geometric print with the same amounts of b/w would work just as well.

I am having fun with prints in general, including animal prints and lots of other graphic, non-floral prints. It think they are flattering for me and do a good job camouflaging my bumps. So no I am not over them and don't see my love for prints and textures going away any time soon.

Rita, how funny - I'm finding the opposite to be true for me. I used to love and have tons of prints, from florals to geometrics to anything in between. But then I realized that *on me* I don't love them nearly as much as they appeal to me on the hanger. I found them busy and distracting on my frame. I find solids much more streamlined and complimentary to my shape. I guess maybe the prints started to look to me like I was attempting to camouflage bumps I didn't even have? I still have my share of (mostly geometric) prints but way, way less than even a year ago.
Maybe this is also why I find these prints on shoes or belts much easier to digest than on full clothing pieces? I dunno . . .

Never in love, never worn really - except a very skinny tortoise belt. And once in the 80's I had a patent wine colored embossed alligator style handbag. That bag got more compliments than anything I've ever owned. sigh.

I was never truly on board with animal prints, so I can't say I'm over it. While I can appreciate the look on others (especially if it's an animal print accessory, like a purse or belt -- that often looks great), it has never been my thing. I've never owned an animal print of any kind in my entire life!

I *love* animal prints and don't see that changing anytime soon. Of course, this is my first 'go round" with them and I'm 50, so it'll take a looooonnnnng time for the novelty to wear off and then I really WILL be a little old lady! LOL

I have a leopard belt, a leopard pair of shoes, a leopard purse, an alligator purse (these are all faux of course! ) some scarves in various prints, a cardigan and a button down. My most recent acquisition was a faux fur car coat in leopard (for 20 bucks, and a few alterations on my own!)

When I start wearing them all together there will have to be an "old lady intervention". LOL

In my defense I'm finding that I like "classic" graphic prints, such as polka dots, stripes and of course animal print! I am generally not a flowery print lover (on me only!) so that really narrows down the print options for me. Having a classic style I shouldn't have really been surprised by the classic print observation. (But I was! )

I have always really loved leopard but never really indulged much. I have a leopard scarf and a leopard belt. And I needed a b/w print top to wear under my black blazer so I picked up a zebra print top. That about covers what I have.

I actually LOVE faux fur leopard coats because for me the really exude a retro style that I love. But I don't own one and probably never will. I don't think it would blend with my style very well. That said, you never know...
