Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Angie was right

I just got my Swann ballet flats from Zappos and I am speechless. Theya re SO comfortable. They slipped off my right foot, but I put in a heel insert and it's fine now. My feet are harder to please than anyone I can think of (I have bunions on one foot, flat feet, extra wide width, and one foot longer than the other), but these are great. They might not be so great if you have a very narrow foot though. I'm going to order at least one more pair.

FANTASTIC. I am thrilled for you! I understand your battle with shoes and you are not alone.

I have a fairly narrow foot and with the correct inserts they work wonderfully for me too. (pun intended). Don’t be scared to order the exact same colour. Pure duplication is a good thing. You are an urbanite and we wear out shoes fast.

If you wouldn’t mind posting your positive experience on the blog posting itself, I’d be grateful. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your happy feet!

Gladly!

Maya, I'm so happy you found great shoes! Which colors did you end up getting? I was also wondering on Zappos how you can tell how wide your feet are? I know you can order WW widths and things--is there a measurement? I think I have wide feet, but I'm not sure how wide.

Thank you Maya! Try them Ana. I shall be surprised if you are dissappointed.

Thanks for the report, Maya. I found out about them just a little too late!

Angie, what kind of inserts do you use? I also have a very narrow foot. These are the flats I have (in gold) -

I love them because they go with almost everything in my closet, but after wearing them for several hours running errands I realized there were some serious slip issues (despite heel snugs) and I was walking around gripping with my toes. I can't really get another pair of shoes right now, so it's discouraging!

Nice shoes Hannah. I buy $4 insoles at the drug store. They work well for me and perhaps they'll work for you too.

Posted 1 year ago

$4 insoles? May I ask what brand? I've been using the Dr. Scholls for open shoes gel ones but they're about $10 a pop.

Posted 1 year ago

Sure Emily. I do not prefer Dr. Scholls. I use a brand called "Premier Value" air foam insoles. A rather odd name but there you have it.

I have a pair of flats that are my absolute most comfortable flats I've ever owned. I just checked the brand, and it's the same one - Me Too.

My feet are slightly on the wide side - I can take wide widths. And I have bunions.

My only gripe is that they aren't real leather, so your feet do have a tendency to sweat in them. But I can walk for days in them.

Ana, I just know my feet are extra wide because everything else is too narrow. I think I also found a chart somewhere that shows shoe widths compared to shoe size, but I can't remember where. It didn't really help anyway because my foot is so wide I wasn't on the chart. I had to measure 2 or 3 times to make sure. I'm sure you can find one somewhere on the internet.

I got the B&W colorblock flats. I think I'm actually going to return them and get a 6 instead because they loosened up a lot after wearing them just around the house. Me Too has a nice way of constatnly reinventing shoe styles, so I hope in the future they add some colorful versions of this shoe.

A couple of questions about these shoes:

1. Are they too heavy for summer wear? Would they be more appropriate to wear with fall/winter/spring clothes than summer?

2. Can they be worn with skirts or dresses, or do they go best with pants?

Posted 1 year ago

This is a good question Christie. I do not get hot easily and will wear these types of shoes right through to temperatures in their 90’s. This is what I did in Chicago last Summer and I was more than fine walking around downtown in and out of air-conditioning. We have perfect Summer weather is Seattle (75-80 degrees) which makes sweaty feet a non-issue here. But everyone is different. I’ll wear this type of shoe for 6 months of the year here.

I’ve also just made a decision. I am NOT wearing strappy shoes again. It’s just too uncomfortable and my feet are very unhappy. Instead, I’m going to wear ballet flats that are cut very open on the foot and have cut-out detailing for breezy ventilation. Hope that helps.

Oh, and I do wear these flats with dresses, skirts and walk shorts. They look great.

Posted 1 year ago

Excellent! I don't have sweaty feet either--thank God--so I usually have no problem with wearing shoes like that in the summer. I'll check them out!

Posted 1 year ago

Hooray! No strappy sandals! I can't wear them either. If you manage to find some good ballet flats with cuts outs and stuff, do let us know, Angie. I'd be very interested, since I could wear those almost year round here.

Ana! If you go to the post below and read Antje’s comment, this might be the shoe you are looking for. It's the cut out “Mia” shoe. I bought my cut outs is Spain, but they are not dissimilar to these Mia's

Thanks for the link Angie! It looks like they are on sale so some of the colors are sold out in my size. I like the red ones though, and the yellow. Hmm....decisions, decisions.

I was wondering about the Anne Klein flats as well. I LOVE all the options available for colors and things and I was wondering if you would describe them as narrow, or if the upper was stiff at all? I'm not sure I would describe my feet as wide, necessarily, but some shoes are too narrow for me, and if the toe box is stiff, it can irritate my pinky toe sometimes.

I'd go for the Mia's then Ana.

Thanks, Angie! I found them on zappos.com as well (not on sale, but they have more colors in my size).

Antje, I know you have these shoes, right? The shoes look brighter on zappos.com than they do on endless.com, and I really want a bright shoe. Would you say they are closer in color to zappos or endless? Thank you!

Yup, I bought the Mias, and love them (have only worn them once so far, though, since the weather has been pretty nasty in the past few weeks.) They are very comfortable, and they run true to size. My feet are very uncompliated, though. (I'm a regular 9 with no special issues).

The color is probably more true to the Endless image. They are a different yellow than the Anne Klein ones. I had ordered them both to try on, and while I loved the Anne Klein ones (and liked their color a bit more), I found them a little more formal, and in the end decided to go with the more casual look of the Mia. I think I will get more wear out of them in the summer; the AK shoes seemed a little more spring-like and I couldn't see them as well with dresses and skirts as the Mia ones.

So yes, the Mia yellow is a bit more subdued, but I think it's wonderful color, very warm. More sunny/wheat, while the AK ones are more mustard-y. Both great, just different. I wore the Mias with dark blue jeans, red cami, and black little jacket, which was a good combination. And I look forward to wearing them with the blue shirt dress :-)

Hope this helps...

That was helpful, thanks Antje. I have very pale skin, so I wanted something that wasn't too close to my skin tone. I like the look of the red ones though, so I might just order those, and if I love them, order the green off zappos in the future. I may still give the Anne Klein shoes a try as well. I'm mostly concerned with how they will feel. My pinky toe is so dang fussy!

If you are looking for bright red shoes, have you seen/considered the Saffron flats at Banana Republic? Now on sale for under $30...
http://www.bananarepublic.com/.....=546633052

I have the green ones at home, they just came today, and they are the cutest shoes ever... (the green doesn't seem to be available anymore, I guess that whole line went fast...). They run a tad small, and I have to wear them at home for a couple hours to know whether I can keep them. I very much hope so! You might want to order half a size up.

Posted 1 year ago

Thanks for the tip, Antje! I like the look of those. Have you ordered BR shoes before? Are they pretty good quality?

Posted 1 year ago

I tried these on (of course). I found them uncomfortable (of course). But they might work for your feet Ana (hope so). And you too Antje!

Posted 1 year ago

Yeah, I've tried BR shoes before and to me they felt kind of flimsy and stiff like cardboard, but that was a while ago, so I wondering if they had changed at all.

Posted 1 year ago

I have my eyes on the following one because I need the height:

http://www.planetshoes.com/ite.....pcode=2846

Has anyone tried them before? Also it's a little pricey so I'll wait for the sale.

Posted 1 year ago

They don't look like they bend when you walk Julia. But then you're asking Miss fussy feet. I’ve found sling backs with an elastic insert the only way to go because they move with your feet when you walk.

Posted 1 year ago

I was hoping that the curves in the front and back of the bottom would compensate the need to bend. Will definitely need to try them on and that's the reason I don't shop shoes online very much...

Posted 1 year ago

The buckle looks like it might start to chafe after walking in them for a while as well. Are they on zappos? That way you could try them and if they don't work, you could ship them back and it wouldn't cost you a thing.
