I'm not comfortable personally with volume on volume. It just makes me feel big, and I hate feeling big. It's not my favorite look even on others who pull it off much more effectively. My eye craves a bit of structure.
But I think of volume and fluidity as slightly different concepts. There can be volume without fluidity, IYKWIM -- some voluminous garments just look baggy or puffy but without that ease and drape that I associate with fluidity. I've happily worn looks that have fluid pieces on top and bottom, and added some structure with a semi tuck, scrunched hem or sleeves or bare arms, etc.
Hmm. Thinking about this more. I did try on my mineral print Zara sweatshirt with the mint green flared faux leather midi, and that's about as close as I've gotten. But it's not a voluminous sweatshirt, and the waist of the skirt is quite fitted, which adds structure.
Interesting to ponder. I doubt I'll fully embrace volume-on-volume, but I've learned to never say never. I suspect there are ways it can be done that can be JFE, but flattery is not always as important to others as it is to me, so I get the appeal.
