Yes! I agree with all of Shevia's wise points, and hope to espouse her attitude and philosophy (and ability to function so well without caffeine!).

However, I don't know that it's disingenuous to post inspiration pics of younger people with grey hair, any more than it's disingenuous to post inspiration pics of outfits on young, tall, thin, blonde models. I'm not expecting miraculously to become the model in either case. Whether it's realistic to aim for that color to be natural is a different and totally reasonable question. Hopefully, I will find out the answer at my appointment today!

And Jules, exactly. "Cool" is an overwrought term at best, and hair is not the hallmark of it.

For before/after documentation, my own head so far, with and without flash, with bonus Harsh Line of Demarcation! The second photo is probably more accurate for natural light, and the red is faded out blue (however that works).

Oh, I didn't think to mention it yesterday to the doctor... but she's reducing my thyroid anyways. (I'm on replacement thyroid.) Man I hope that helps!

I am generally anti-gray but I think yours looks great!

Rachy, about 4 years ago (age 52) I started losing a lot of hair. It lasted about a month, and I don't feel it grew back. Then I got another bout of hair loss a year or two later. I am on replacement thyroid meds, and have it regularly checked for proper dosage, so it's not that. It's aging. I have no gray hairs, but have been affected by the thinning hair thing which IS aging I think. Thankfully it has stopped, and I don't have bald spots but this is one of the reasons I don't do highlights which would surely punch up my overall look. But, the chemicals could further encourage hair loss.

Apologies for the cross talk Una. I do think your hair is so thick that it looks fantastic any way you color it. I look at thick hair like yours and drool.

Una, your grey looks fantastic. I'm so excited to see the "full effect". Way to embrace what feels right to you.

I also have remark that Shevia's grey is sooo gorgeous on her, especially with her current 'do.

Thanks all that mentioned my points - they have been swirling around for some time obviously! I am sheepishly in approximately the same level of caffeine right now as when I wrote my first comments, and Una your last pictures reminded me of something else - the first few times I saw my head in the harsh light of a dressing room I recoiled (yours looks gorgeous to me in both pictures btw). I often think of A Streetcar Name Desire and the importance of the right light as I age. And not just regarding my hair, obviously.

Angie, you made my day - I can't wait until I tell my family you want to clone me. I am laughing at their reaction already!

ETA - Thanks Sarah for your super sweet comment!
