I've been so effective in cleaning out my closet that I truly have very little to wear. I'm trying to hit the sales and specials to get new tops. After my YLF education, I think I'm getting better at eliminating, but I'm still trying to figure out what really looks good on me. So I need your advice for final decisions.

1) J Crew denim skirt (with a Sweet Pea top I discovered in my closet)

2) ATL White sleeveless shirt

3) J Crew blue wool cardigan and pink ruffled top -- I really like the cardigan but it looks to dark with jeans. I'm planning to get gray wool trousers and I think the cardigan is short enough to wear with my gray wool skirt. Does it go with the black/white microcheck pants? I'm feeling ambivalent about the ruffled top even though I like the navy/hot pink combination.

4) ATL green dress -- worn over skinny jeans and as a dress with boots. Now that I look at the photos, I'm wondering if it is too big or maybe the style just doesn't work for me (or maybe I'm being self-conscious).

5) J Crew velvet jacket (same one that Dani bought) -- I couldn't decide between the green and the brown. I like both colors (although I was hoping the green would be more olive). CRS on fit and color please. I can only keep one!

Hmm...I'm not good at rating stuff, so I will let other people do that. But, I do have that ruffle top from J. Crew, (in orange rather than rhubarb). I like the way you have it, but I've found that it looks best on me when I wear the ruffles inside the sweater, rather than pull them out of the collar. It also works nicely with a more traditional button up cardi that is worn open. The look is tailored, but still kind of funky and blousy. Give that a try too. The color is great on you.

AJ! Hurray! Look at how gorgeous you are in these better fitting clothes. I love the sweet pea top and denim skirt. That's a 9. Keep and repeat!

The sleeveless AT blouse is nice and I like it on you. It looks a tad big, unless it's the photo deceiving me. Very fresh.

3. I like all of the items -- and I think the cardi works fine with the jeans and the grey pants. Are you a ruffle girl at heart? I think you rock the simple, clean lined look, which is why I prefer the non-ruffle top.

I like the green dress belted with the boots and love it with the cardigan. I think, perhaps, the dress may be too long to wear with the jeans, however I am not an expert on this look and have never tried it.

Sorry, I am not very comfortable with ratings, but here are some thoughts:

SP top + denim skirt - looks great!

White shirt is very nice and looks wonderful with the jacket (I assume it's the same one?). Maybe try it belted too?

Green dress is a great color on you. I think it's too long to wear with the skinnies and I am not sure it's the right material for that... but like Kyle I've never tried the look myself. I also like it best with boots and cardi - w/o the cardi it looks more summery.

I love the blazer + white shirt + jeans look! So clean and polished. I'd go with the green out of the 2 colors. Have you tried the blue or black at the store? Oh btw did you pick it up during your personal shopper appointment?

Thanks for the comments! It feels good to have picked out clothes that look good.

I bought the J.Crew items when I had the appointment with the personal shopper. I didn't see the jacket in blue in the store -- I would have been tempted to get that because I love blue. I'll probably go with the green because it adds some variety to my wardrobe.

I was trying to figure out what to do with the ruffles so I'm glad to hear that Ana wears them tucked in. I like the color so I'll see what else I can wear it with.

I like the color of the dress although I've rarely worn that green. I thought that it would work with sandals in the summer and then go into fall with boots and a cardigan. Maybe a cream cardigan would work also. I like the look of a dress over skinny jeans but haven't figured out yet what length is the proper length to do that.

I love the white shirt -- it might be a tad loose under the arms but it doesn't gap and my bra doesn't show. It fits perfectly across the bust so I couldn't go smaller.

Hi Aj, you look great! I really like your new items.

1. I love that denim skirt/Sweat Peat top , gorgeous! I'd give it a solid 9!

2. The white blouse is nice, but it does look a tad loose. If you do not want it taken in at the waist, then I'd wear it as a layering piece under cardis & jackets.

3. Great cardi and ruffle top! ( both 9's). I love all the combos and second Ana on how to wear the ruffles. I do not think that the cardigan is too dark for jeans, if you, for example, wear it over white/cream top and add a pop of bright color such as bright yellow as an accessory somewhere.

4. That green dress looks pretty on you when worn as a dress. I think it's too long for skinnies though. It would also look nice with a dark purple cardigan or fitted denim jacket.

5. The velvet jacket was made for you (9 again) and I would pick the green too.

Wow!!!! You look fantabulicious! (and I don't break that word out very often!)

I love love love the SP top!!!

I love the cardigan, prefer it with the ruffled blouse and the green dress. The V neck and the unique cardigan neckline are competing to me. I'd like to see that cardigan with the SP top, the white sleeveless top as well.

I love the white sleeveless top w/jeans. A nice chunky necklace with it would take it up a notch.

I love the green dress, but I think it's too long to wear with jeans. Looks fab w/the cardigan, and I prefer it belted.

The only thing that I did not care for, was the high vamp sandals with the skirt. But I used to be so guilty of this--I had no idea that an outfit that shows leg, looks best with a low vamp shoe.

I also love the velvet jacket--it is so you. I can't decide between the two colors though. Do you think you have more things that go with the green or the brown? you know, I think I'd like to see the SP top with the green jacket. That might be the deciding factor.

AJ...I am really blown away with how great you look!! Well done! You are so cute.

Wow AJ - you are doing a great job! I love the blue sweater and I think the velvet jacket is perfect. I really like the green color. I also like the dress with the leather belt, looks very polished.

Y'all are all so sweet! I was getting so depressed cleaning out my closet because I realized I had made so many bad clothing choices. Even though I've learned a lot from YLF, I still don't feel very confident picking clothes out -- so I'm blown away by all the compliments on these choices. I might just be able to learn how to have an eye for style after all.

You made great choices. I love the denim skirt and Sweet Pea top. Everything looks good on you too. My thought on the white shirt was that it would look nice with a cute belt.

Woohoo aj! You're doing a sterling job! WELL DONE. Here’s my 2 cents:

1. Denim skirt and sweet pea top – 10 for both items. KILLER.

2. White shirt – gorgeous! Would like to see a size down, or do you think this will pull across the bust? The looks score a 9. So fresh!

3. Blue wool cardigan – beautiful! It gets a solid 9.

4. Ruffle shirt – not your best. Something about the collar is off. I vote return. The colour is amazing though. Keep looking.

5. Green dress is not structured enough for my liking. It doesn’t look great over skinnies and it’s too short as a dress. I think you can do better.

6. Fabulous velvet jacket! I vote olive. It gets a sold 9.5 for colour and fit. You look AMAZING.

Thanks, Angie. I was still ambivalent about the green dress and the pink blouse so back they go. I'm happy with all the other pieces. Woo-hoo is right!

I also think you look great - and absolutely LOVE your specs!

I might be too late but:

I actually really like the ruffle shirt on you; but what seems to be off for me isn't the ruffles; it's the color. I'm not sure it is your best shade.

The green dress is absolutely lovely and the color for you is PERFECTION. I like it best sleeveless, belted, with boots; or with the cardi thrown over.

I love the velvet jacket but would like to see it with a shirt that isn't white. Both colors of that blazer are muted and softer, so white seems too harsh with them. Hard to decide which color for you- both look great- but I'm leaning towards the green.

Looking at your pics... and thinking about color and what would look best on you... I am wondering if perhaps throwing a few highlights into your hair might open up your clothing color options? Just a thought. I'm no hair color expert.... I just know that when my hairdresser tweaks my color with highlights and/or lowlights - just one shade darker or one shade lighter - no big dramatic change - it seems to make a world of difference in what clothing colors I can wear (i.e., warm vs cool tones.)

AJ - great job. Chiming in late but wanted to acknowledge how great you look and how well you are doing. 9 for the sweet pea with denim jacket. Wear the ATL white shirt with belt of jacket or cardi for fit reasons that others have pointed out. Love your navy cardigan and it looks fine over jeans - perhaps with that crisp white shirt of yours? I'm ambivalent about the ruffle top - doesn't work for me the way you have it layered here but maybe with more of a v-neck cardi or open jacket? The green dress is ok (7) to me and I like it best with the cardi and boots. The jacket in green is a 9, the brown looks good on you too - 8.5. It's really nice to see all your pictures.

AJ, sorry I haven't gotten to this post until now but I just wanted to say I'm really impressed with your new things. I think you're doing very well. I have the ruffle shirt as well and I wear the collar in as Ana mentioned. I think the ruffle is to voluminous to be worn outside of the sweater. I really like the blazer in the olive, but the brown is nice as well. As for the ATL white shirt, you could have a tailor take in some of the excess around the middle for a more fitted option that will still fit you in the bust...just a thought You look great!
